I believe I got scammed into shipping my item with a fake payment received email

I am 90% sure that I got scammed into shipping my item since I received an email from supposedly eBay saying that my item has been paid and to start shipping which I did. I failed to realize it was a scammer so I ultimately think lost the item. I contacted costumer service and all they could do is to report they buyers and escalate things as well as telling me to reporting it to the authorities. Have you guys encountered a similar situation and would like to share the outcome as in if you were able to receive some sort of money back or something like that? Or should I just lose hope of ever getting anything back.

Yes, you were scammed. No hope, unless you can recall the shipment if it has not been delivered yet.

You need to forward the email message that you received to the following ebay's email:

spoof@ebay.com

I can only assume that you provided your contact details to enable this scammer to send you fake details. This is why you are repeatedly advised by eBay to NEVER allow or initiate contact outside of the eBay platform.

Sorry this happened, but at least you now understand why eBay has this strict policy in place.

Sorry that happened.

Was it the game system?

You won't be getting anything back.

Have a great day.

How did the scammer get your email address to send you a fake payment email?

If the payment & ready to ship info was not in your Seller Hub, then I'm afraid it was a scam.  How much $$ are we talking about?  You could consider going to your Police, but unless it's high dollar & a big city dept that deals with cybercrimes, it's likely not worth it.   Also, many of the scammers are overseas, so US law enforcement can't do anything.

If the pkg is still in transit, you may be able to do a RECALL of the pkg, at your cost.

I gave it to him, I’m a freshly new seller and this was my first sale, I didn’t know how things worked so I though he needed my email to make a payment but I just fell into his trap. Thank you for replying to me.

Yeah I am new to this selling on eBay and it was my first sell so I didn’t really know how everything worked but yeah I guess I know now not to contact anyone outside of eBay. Thanks for replying to me and for your answer

Sorry this happened to you. You might want to end your current listing and do some reading about how eBay works.

Sorry to hear it.   A way that helps to avoid scammers (though not foolproof) is to not list at Auction.  List Fixed Price with Immediate Payment Required IPR.   Stick around & read here for a few weeks & you'll be much wiser.

You are a new seller who listed an expensive electronic gaming item and so it was almost a given that you were going to get scammed.  How Ebay let a new seller like yourself list that item is beyond me.  It is bordering on criminal behavior on Ebay's part.

eBay cannot force your buyer to pay, and eBay is not going to send you free money because you made a mistake. So yes, you should probably give up any hope of someone bailing you out.

Never rely on email notifications. Always log in and check that the transaction is in the 'Awaiting shipment' status.
