I woke up today to find that i was given a warning about discussing off ebay sales. It told me the item that was discussed. THIS NEVER HAPPENED. A buyer asked me about an item and if i would do free shipping. I actually said sure why not and if youre interested in any other items i would package them all together. I exchanged one message with the buyer. They never even responded to their request and i aggreed to it. Not once was the idea of doing this transaction off ebay. I dont understand how the bots could target this message. It kinda irritates me to be warned for doing nothing wrong. Is it even worth calling ebay to say i didnt do this and read them the message and say where is an off ebay transaction discussed????

Several sellers have reported that they've received warnings as well... and also NEVER discussed doing off-eBay transactions at all.
You can't forestall all messages from buyers, but you can prevent many of their messages simply by putting ALL details, etc. in your listings, so hopefully they won't be asking about the stuff that's already in there.
We'll have to see how far this goes, and whether it's going to keep up.

Might read this sellers statement as to how far ebay will go concerning suspected offsite transactions.... https://www.ecommercebytes.com/C/letters/blog.pl?/pl/2017/12/1514521619.html

bots just pick out "keywords" which mightbe part of one word and another part of a word. It might not even make no sense to us. that is the danger of relying on computers too much

Bots have no sense of context, they just see words, not a complete understanding of the words.

Instead of giving the information in email and taking the chance of the bots misunderstanding -
tell your buyer to check the q&a section of the listing where you have responded to his question.

Well if free shipping will get the bots to decide its an off ebay transaction then we are all doomed. Or maybe ebay should fix their code or whatever is wrong.

this is why I no longer answer people that send me messages through eBay that are not already connected to a sale.
i have one right now where someone made an offer on a listing that did not have make offer on it. Instead, he's getting blocked, just in case he decides to do something stupid like send a number or God know what else the bots take offense at.
No way, no how. Not with the bots run amuck.

" I actually said sure why not and if youre interested in any other items i would package them all together."
-------
I'd say the bots read "other items" as invoiced through Paypal
but not listed, nor won on eBay.

And I'd say so much for humans reading these before a suspension is handed out.
Or at least one that can actually read.

ebay has gone over the top on "off ebay sales" ( bots gone wild )
Every seller knows if you take a sale off ebay, the seller has zero protection.
I know of no seller who would put their item, and the money at risk.
We may not have great protection here, but dang, we use what we have.
And the whole no contact before the sale is crazy, I need to answer questions.
But I can't control what a potential buyer puts in a message.

Does anyone else get the impression that eBay is grasping at straws?

Good, I was beginning to think I was in an alternate universe and the only one sensing the desperation.
