How to set up a 'select' option in a listing

For example: there are sellers with 100 cassettes in one listing, you select the ones you want to purchase from a drop down menu.

That's called a variations listing. As kensgiftshop said, that's not what a variations is really for.

A variations listing is if you have several of the same item, but with a variation ... different color, different size.

In your example If you have  100 cassettes, all different titles, they should be listed separately.

Setting up a variations listing would be much too time consuming with a drop down menu of 100 different titles.

However, if many your 100 cassettes were the same title, example:  22 Jaws, 31 Titanic, 19 Toy Story, 28 Bambi, then you might consider doing a variations listing.
