Hey my fellow eBay community folks. I’m new to the platform (with selling that is) and I would love to hear some good tips on getting my first sale. The process to setting up and posting your item for purchase is pretty simple and easy. However, there are so many scam artists that creates a distance between real people trying to sell real products and make an honest living, from real consumers just on the platform looking to buy what they desire. Help please, need some pointers...

In over ten years of selling, i have never encountered a bad buyer. So i believe scammers are not the first consideration when selling.
The first consideration is learning the policies that govern the site. The main reason scammers can get an upper hand is from targeting new inexperienced sellers with high dollar goods, many who haven't a clue as to how the platform works. Like stealing candy from a baby.
So knowing the rules, like the Money Back Guarantee policy, is crucial. Having a thorough knowledge of the User Agreement is as well. It is necessary for success on eBay.
Consider offering buyer-friendly terms, including a 30-day return policy (14 days in some categories). The willingness to accept returns will not encourage buyers to buy with an intent to return, or increase the number of returns you would normally get. Instead, it is an important insurance policy against bogus Not As Described claims. Those claims damage a seller’s standing on eBay. It can also improve sales by giving buyers confidence you stand behind your listings.
If you are planning on selling high dollar goods in high scam categories, then as a new zero feedback seller, you are already at a disadvantage. Buyers can be reticent to purchase pricey things from unproven sellers. Scammers may target you.
So this is the advice i give loved ones who want to sell here: Start small. Get some feedback under your belt. Learn the rules. Then in 6 months, if you have an unblemished record of selling, you may be in a better position to up your game.
Selling on eBay isn’t a sprint, it is a marathon. Wish you much success with your eBay journey.

A very well-thought out and helpful response.
We need to accentuate learning about the MBG. So many sellers come here because they are surprised at how heavily the MBG is biased in favor of buyers. The no negative FB for buyers is apparently also a shock to some folks.

Um, the original post was made less than two hours ago, and according to their Profile page, the OP is still logged in and currently online.

Thank you, @soh.maryl .
I agree with you. It also seems sellers get surprised when their interests aren’t protected by eBay. Some start selling with an assumption there are seller protections in place that don’t actually exist.
Hope the OP returns to the discussion.

Yes great post and points to new seller the areas to study.
I would also urge them to read up on managed payments and the MP board so they are not shocked after the sale, among other aspects of Managed Payments
