How to charge for insurance?

I just wrote another question. This relates to that.

‘Is there a way to charge the customer for insurance? Also, how can I, when making my listing, offer only one carrier for delivery?

It is against eBay policy to charge extra for insurance: insurance protects you as the sender, the buyer has the MBG for protection.

You can purchase insurance, but you need to include the cost in your shipping and handling.

As far as the carrier, you choose whoever you ship with, if you want to offer only one option, offer only one option.

insurance is for the seller not for the buyer. it is your own responsibility for it.

you can build it into your starting bid.

or like some of us, we self insure versus buying it because we don't like paying for something that is rarely used and when the time comes to file a claim you never know if they will cover it anyways.

What do you want to insure against?
Delay in delivery is impossible. Even the shipper can't prevent that completely.

Damage in transit is usually a matter of poor packing. You are the one packing, so make sure your item will withstand a two foot drop from one conveyor belt to the next and then having a 50lb package fall on top of it.

Problem with item-- again either poor packaging or a disappointed buyer. Not the responsibility of the shipper.

The there is Cookie Jar Insurance, which is just adding a small amount to the price of any item and keeping those pennies and dimes in a virtual Cookie Jar as a self-insurance premium.

If the customer complains, use the money in the Cookie Jar to make him whole.
