How to Issue Refund with Case Pending

I received an item back stating recipient failed to pick up package, so it was returned back to shipper.

I received it back late Friday afternoon.

Over the weekend, the buyer opened an Item Not Receive case. They stated that FedEx didn't do their vacation hold while he was away.

Since I have it back, I would like to refund the buyer minus the shipping costs, but it won't let me due to the open case.

When I try to refund through the open case, it wants me to refund for the item plus the shipping costs.

How do I handle this?

I don't think I should be responsible for the shipping costs. Plus, I didn't think that FedEx had a place where you could put packages on hold, although they did hold it for 5 days before returning it to me.

eBay considers Available for pick up and returned to sender the same as Delivered, so the Item Not Received case will close without a refund.

 

The hole is relieved after that, wham you can refund the buyer any amount you warm less fees and shipping, or nothing at all.

@dentalsales4u You and your buyer will need to follow the processes on this platform. The INR case will have to close out BEFRORE you can issue a partial refund, or as you said you will be refunding in total. The buyer themselves can close out the INR case. If you explain it to them that you will do a partial refund once they close the case, it will expedite everything. Otherwise, you simply have to wait it out. Nothing else can be done here. You are given sound advice by " lamber9347"

 

In my experience eBay system will only allow you to issue a full refund when an INR CASE is active/ Open.

 

I assume you have uploaded tracking reference/ number on INR CASE. If not then I would recommend that you do this now as failure to do this could result in buyer getting a full refund and this amount being debited to you and as a double whammy you do nit get your FVF credited to you as case was escalated and found in buyer's favour.

 

Noted that you do not want to issue a full refund and you can issue a partial refund a few days after INR CASE is closed.  When determining the amount please keep in mids that in most partial refund cases eBay do not credit your FVF back .

 

Please consider asking your buyer to  pay postage for sending the item back to him and he can pay this amount through Paypal.

@dentalsales4uUnless ebay has changed it again, they did start refunding Final Value Fees for partial refunds at the end of May or June this year. I would wait it out, as others have suggested, then issue a refund minus all shipping charges. I just googled Fedex vacation hold, and it is a thing. I was surprised to see that they do  have a vaca hold (up to 14 days).

You might want to add that buyer to your Blocked Buyer List if you don't want them to be able to purchase from you in the future. Good Luck!

@jvec_trading I wish I could help you, but it's been so long now, that I don't remember.

I've had many other situations arise since then, they all start running together after a while.

I would do as others have suggested in this thread.

Post your tracking number in the case and wait for it to close.
