I've just read a few posts where ebay CS has now been telling people who call to complain about the new GTC mandate and to close or downgrade their stores - that GTC is not a permanent change yet, and ebay is still taking feedback about it.
So if this is true (which there's no way to know), I think its important that all of us who are being affected by this negatively? Keep posting here about it, and keep calling customer service, etc..
I'm really wondering though how long this is going to have continue before enough is enough? How many businesses will have to lay people off, how many will actually go out of business on ebay? How much destruction are they going to allow here??
Personally for me? This whole fiasco has been like watching a train wreck happen..I absolutely knew this was going to kill my business, as soon as it was announced the few months before they made the change official..
Sure enough? As soon as this "change' hit? My sales plummeted, and have stayed basically in the toilet...Items that I had that were selling in 2 days without fail?? Now are taking 10 - 20 days to sell, and all the while its just a race to the bottom on price and profits...
I'm sorry but this is insanity all around.
When a platform implements a sweeping change like this, that actually slows sales velocity to a crawl, while forcing sellers to lose money because they now have to go on a downward spiral in price along with everyone other seller on the site? You no longer have a healthy, productive marketplace..
When you are forced to use a listing tool duration that was designed SPECIFICALLY for LONG TERM STORE inventory items, where sellers have A TON of one item sku to sell? To list a one off unique item a seller will never have twice?? You no longer have a healthy, productive marketplace..
When you have THOUSANDS of sellers up in arms about this change, which is actively destroying their sales and businesses? And the platforms response to these sellers who are going crazy because they are going out of business is: "WE feel that this is the best way to increase item exposure, and provide sellers with the greatest sales velocity possible" ..I'm sorry but you no longer have a healthy, productive marketplace..
The bottom line here is that we were all sold a false bill of goods here folks. GTC does not increase sales "velocity", it DECREASES it, drastically. If you aren't selling a lot of one item? You have absolutely ZERO need for GTC, and it was not designed for your items. That's the bottom line here.
So this is my 2 cents, and I will continue posting things like this to speak my opinion. If you and your business and livelihood is being adversely affected by this as well? I would encourage you to let ebay know too and keep posting..
The only sane thing I have heard here yet in regards to GTC is that they may change it if sellers keep complaining..
Again though we have to wonder how much damage will be done before that happens, if it in fact does happen.
So keep speaking your minds everyone..It seems like it might be the only shot we have to end this GTC nightmare...

Been a seller since 2000. I noticed all the "GTC" when ended, and relisted come up with 10-15 views right away. This is **bleep**. I mean within seconds. Even the relist of auction items for 10 days show up with 8-10 views. Sooo, there is no way to know what to relist. Way to go ebay. I have had a store for 5+ years, but as of Aug, no more.
TO BAD.

Many may already use GTC or be unaware of this change because they do not keep up with updates. So while those who do frequent this forum and read the seller updates have been very vocal about this~I don't know how many that is in relation to all sellers.

I do think there’s a small possibility they’ll roll it back but only after another quarter passes. They rolled this GTC change out at a VERY bad time when overall sales are drastically down. My own sales have fallen 50% since mid-March, despite having more active listings.
Sales here are down across the board. I’ve been keeping tabs on a lot of sellers in my categories and most of them are also having dismal sales so I know it’s not just me.

You apparently don't understand the benefit of a buyer's sense of urgency to buy. This is an important factor for those of us who list one of a kind & unique items. If GTC works great for you, then you are all set! So use it. If you don't understand the problem the rest of us here are having, why do you insist that GTC is the best way to go? I want the option of a shorter duration that has a clear beginning and ending date.

Most of my items, (except for one line)
are one of a kind items.
There IS a sense of urgency to buy these throught GTC,
in my opinion
Because if the viewer sees it, the possibility exists someone else would BIN it, if they don't buy at that time.

Yup, it was addressed in the weekly chat, by Trinton. Since then(5 days), there have been thousands more sellers voicing their dissatisfaction. I'm guessing all day, every day!
By the way, I am the original poster on the thread about downgrading my store and talking to customer service. For clarification: I was considering a downgrade. CS did not suggest it. I had questions, and they were accurately and politely answered by a rep who was NOT reading from a script. I told the rep that GTC had severely hurt my sales. She told me this: The change is not yet carved in stone. They are accepting feedback on the issue. She said that upper management was reviewing feedback and that issuing a complaint through customer service is the best way to get our voices heard, and that our input will be considered in the final decision. Dang, I have been hit with so much **bleep** after that post! All I was doing was conveying what I was told by an eBay employee. I am not a person who sits idly by, waiting for my little business to tank. I felt the need to be heard. I felt marginally better after the call, so I shared the experience. I did not expect the tsunami of negativity I got. Call eBay if you want, it might help, and couldn't hurt. Don't call if you don't want, but don't fault us for making the effort.

That one won't be necessary because my family lives in the house. Most family members know to do that but who is going to think that ebay fixed price items will never end? When I explained it to my family, they looked at me like I was speaking Greek. Even they knew that it is a stupid policy.

Its obvious its a stupid policy but Ebay is out of ideas to increase profits. They have to keep doing stuff like this because they are clueless how to increase revenue on this site, while other sites are doing so every quarter

suspect they do that now on auctions as well, when I just an auction RIGHT when it posts there are 7 views.NO way people would be seeing it that quick.

"With GTC Buyers See It Over and Over and Over There is NO Urgency to Buy At All. None."
-----------
Sure there is.
The first buyer to BIN it, gets it. No one else will get it, after that.
FP BIN is more time demanding, that your perceived deadline of time on 7-10 day listings.
With your "it's ending in 7 days," people could believe they have a full 7 days to consider buying it.
Many, if not most of my FP IRP listings, have had buyers within the first 2 to 3 days.
