How is it fair that

someone can order something and cancel and then refuse to agree to the cancellation that THEY ASKED FOR and the seller is stuck with a defect and a final value fee? I mean 10 friends could abuse this ridiculous policy to their advantage and get a competitor banned in quick order, I've had way too many people recently cancelling orders then refusing to agree to the cancellation request and these defects are wreaking havoc on my account, so what the heck am I supposed to do? none of the cancellations are my fault.

You need to issue a refund before sending the cancel request, buyers are told in an email not to accept the cancellation if refund has not been issued.

That hasn't applied for some years.

Cancel through eBay to refund and get the fvf credit at the same time.

Its apparently changed back because the buyers are being asked to accept or deny again. And the screen clearly shows this and says not to accept if you haven't gotten a refund--case in point here in message 17 http://community.ebay.com/t5/Bidding-Buying/The-seller-is-asking-for-unusual-things/m-p/27445372#M23... and here http://community.ebay.com/t5/Bidding-Buying/Seller-Canceled-Purchase/m-p/27388418#M228691 screen shots on both threads....

It appears the whole transaction was inititated to leave me a note to ask me to sell to them outside of eBay, probably to attempt a further unrelated scam.

My theory fern is that they added the confirmation back into buyer requested because so many sellers were using it to get out of defects for issues they caused.

ive only had seller requested cancels so I'm speaking from what I read on the boards not personal experience.

I think so too based on the evidence--screen shots provided by several buyers of the screen showing they clearly asked to accept or deny. I asked the blues about this and they said the process is the same, the buyer is NOT asked to accept or deny and the explanation given is that the sellers must have initiated the cancellation on ebay Ireland....and that some of the other sites still use the old accept/deny process. 2 of the sellers are chinese sellers. OP isn't a chinese seller....

Hey @missjen831, I just wanted to clarify that this screenshot is indicating that the buyer needs to confirm they have received a refund. This is not the same as the old accept or deny process. While that process is still used on some smaller eBay sites, this should no longer happen with a cancellation on the eBay.com site. The messaging shared in this thread is simply indicating that the buyer needs to confirm a refund has been received before the cancellation is closed. This messaging appears when payment has already been made and we weren't able to recognize a refund. The cancellation process should generally initiate the refund automatically, but if a refund is sent prior to the cancellation or if payment was not recognized, then this comment may appear.

@rolenboy01, as long as you indicated that the buyer requested these cancellations when opening the cancel transaction, no defect will be recorded. I can encourage you to reach out to your buyer when a refund confirmation is needed to resolve this in the future.

This buyer needs to be investigated they ONLY made the purchase to send me their personal contact info to complete a transaction OUTSIDE OF eBay, I've already reported them but hopefully you can do more, it's clear as day in their note to me as the seller and should be viewable to eBay employees.
