How do you check the status of Ebay Standard Envelopes (ESUS)

These things are useless. If the Post Office doesn't update them at the point of final delivery, than they just say "In Transit". So, technically, they are not delivered, and the buyer can claim he/she never received it. What is the point of "tracking" if it si not done correctly? I have a buyer who "is claiming" he never got the item, because still in transit, two weeks after i shipped it. I am sure he received it, but is claiming he didn't because he knows that i am on the hook and will ultimately have to refund his money. NO PROOF !!  Please help.

Once you refund his money, make a claim that the item was not delivered.  You will have to show the sales order with the refund, plus a message from him saying he didn't receive the item (or a copy of the INR request). They will refund the cost of the item, not the postage. I've used this before.

Someone should be along shortly to share the link... I usually have to search eBay's site to get it, since I've only done this a couple of times.

In my experience there is no tracking along the way but it does eventually show as delivered. That's what you get for the low rate. Yes, it's a very flawed system but it's the chance you take for that price and whether it's worth the effort. There are a billion threads on this.

Right, it's not actually "tracking" in the usual sense, and the post office and/or carrier cannot do either an Acceptance or Delivered scan, because it doesn't carry a barcode. What it does have (since it's more a letter than a package) is a Routing code, which is read by sorting equipment along the way, and that's what gets reported along the way. The last leg prior to delivery is apparently interpreted by eBay as a Delivery, even though no one is actually scanning it at the doorstep.

Thus a buyer can claim Item Not Delivered and you will have to refund, then seek restitution from eBay. I think the upper limit for that is $20.

Your buyer did not receive the item, they aren’t lying. ESUS is a garbage system and you get what you pay for with cheap shipping. Research why it’s so cheap before using it next time. Most likely scenario is it’s either lost or stolen because shipping employees who aren’t so honest know that collectibles get shipped in them and because tracking is non-existent they can’t be held accountable for a missing ESUS envelope. eBay using this system is the worst joke and will continue to lose them and their sellers lots of business.
