This system takes the buyers money instantly. A couple of days later it is deposited into the sellers account. Fast forward to trying to be an honest seller and provide a buyer with a refund. Some circumstances are different and you just know you need to issue the refund. Welcome to the land of eBay. The first thing that happens is you get a message a few days later saying you have no available funds to process the refund and to enter another payment option such as credit card or debit card. Now things are really frustrating. The reason the seller is told there are no funds to process the refund is because the payment from the seller has already been routed to the checking account. Which by the way is the source for the Sellers ebay account. They simply do not want to do the work to take the funds from checking to process the refund. They want the seller to furnish a credit card number so they can pull the refund from the credit card (Costing the seller even more money) Basically we are told by ebay how and when to use our own money. I know....its a no win so don't bother telling me. Bottom line is - as the seller we have to take it or leave it. D.... if you do and D..... if you don't. Remember they used to have a back up payment plan for the sellers. It was called Paypal and then they cut ties with Paypal.

Whether a seller agrees or doesn't agree to managed payments really doesn't matter. If you want to sell on Ebay, you must use the payment method Ebay requires to be paid. That's it.
Have a great day.

Never had this happen to me. Any returns and refunds went smoothly so far.

How do the sellers feel about ebay managed payment system?
I love it. As long as I print labels on Mondays, I know the amount send as my weekly payout reflects my net after all shipping and fees and before cost of goods sold. Before, I had to figure out my eBay invoices on six accounts, and then go to my PayPal account and get a balance, account for other PayPal purchases, and calculate my net.
They want the seller to furnish a credit card number so they can pull the refund from the credit card (Costing the seller even more money)
Why does taking the money from a credit card cost the seller money? I do not get charged and thing extra when that happens. And It actually lets me "borrow" that refund for up to a month before I have to pay off my credit card. But I don't think eBay has ever had to hit my credit card.
Basically we are told by ebay how and when to use our own money.
eBay doesn't tell me how and when to use my money.

"They want the seller to furnish a credit card number so they can pull the refund from the credit card (Costing the seller even more money)"
Taking funds for a refund from a credit card is a last ditch effort when the bank account has insufficient funds. It does not cost money unless you have no credit available, a personal issue not of eBay's doing.

Just like a hotel or car rental outfit which won't do business with you unless you provide a credit card, eBay does not want to lose money if you really screw up.
To answer your question, my active selling days ended last Fall but I much preferred Managed Payments to the rather cumbersome system with PayPal.
And, as an aside, it was PayPal which cut the ties with eBay as its payment processor; not vice-versa.

At first when eBay started with managed payments I was skeptical. I’ve changed my attitude towards it.Everything goes smoothly. I really like the fact that fees are taken out at the time of the sale rather than having to pay a bill every 30 days.
I don’t get many returns so those are a nonissue for me.

I opted in years ago when it was first offered. It's okay with me.

What do you mean in your listings:
You don't take Pay Pal or online payments
Don't sound like you'll be selling here long.

You do know you can do weekly payouts so you still have money in your account available for refunds, correct? It is always wise, not just for Ebay, but for your entire money situation is ALWAYS have money available for emergencies. I have never had a problem issuing a refund and managed payments has been great for me.

If I get a return , after my weekly payout into my account. I got (I think ) 72 hr to issue a refund. I wait a day to see if I get a sale before I issue the refund. If no sale I have no problems when Ebay request money from my checking acct. This is the name of the game. I have looked into other selling sites and they are all the same.

Been on it for many many many years now. NEVER any real problems.

I actually love their MP. I haven't had any problems with it and have never been asked for a CC for a refund. I rarely get returns but when I do it comes out of either the available funds on ebay or from my checking account. I love the fees taken right away too. No more sweating the bills at the end of the month. So far, so good.

funny how when they took paypal out of the loop they raised ebay fees after telling us this was better for us.

@astro-tops : Okay, do you have a debit (ATM) card tied to your Checking account? That's how you can refund the buyer from your Checking account. Add the debit card number to your eBay account, and that should work when you need to issue a refund and eBay has no pending funds from which to draw.
