When I sell an item, ship it and know the buyer has received it, No one ever leaves feedback. I have 1175 positives 100 % ,and I don't understand why no feedback is left. I leave it as soon as the buyer pays for the item, but wait to see if the item is acceptable when I buy. Am I being silly or do I actually need Feedback? Is it permissable to ask the buyer if he is pleased with the transaction?
Thanks

Thank you so much for your reply. You said it so well I can't add to it.
As I said in my post today, I have been away fro eBay several years now,and I have just come back recently. I am an old lady (82) now, lost my husband of 63 years, last year and need to down size my collectibles and "stuff". So that is the main reason I am back.
I asked the question because I truly wanted to know. With my customers, I try to wrap and package items in a way they will get to the destination safely, and am always upfront and honest as I know how to be. (My dad taught me that long ago.)
So I want you to know ,because you have been so nice, that I simply needed to know the answer to that question, and meant nothing else by it. Oh and I haven't asked many questions on the forum...
Thank you for understanding. Oh,the file is one of my main interests. Hope you enjoy it.
First of all, I am deeply sorry that you lost your husband. Downsizing all your treasures is hard to do when life forces such a change. Just so you understand all the different replies we've given, the issue of feedback is a longstanding one. There are pages and pages on the subject on this board, and it does get a bit tiresome, thus the apathy, and humour.
I returned to eBay, as you did, after many years absence, only to find that the eBay I had once trusted and loved working on had changed drastically. So many pitfalls now. Feedback is probably the least of your worries Dearest. Please take the time to do what I did upon returning. Spend a few hours of your time re-educating yourself about how things operate now, the good, the bad, the indifferent. I did this by going backwards to the very start of the threads on this Sellers board and dove into reading all the threads, as tedious as it was. Eventually you can skip over to what interests you most until you end up in the current day/week. Posts move quickly, so pick out what you need to know to stay ahead of any issues. Patterns emerge. Valuable information is provided. Bookmark info that can help you. Forewarned is forearmed. Always come here first if there is an issue.
The people who jump into threads to help out are wonderful and offer a wide variety of opinions, which can be blunt, honest, and funny. And they help save the day. I know, they've saved my behind more than a few times. Best of luck getting back into the swing of things!!

The movie "Groundhog Day' should be remade in the eBay version, "Feedback Day" and then we could just post clips from that as a response.

I don't care about feedback (unless it's bad). Nonexistent feedback is just as good as positive i.e. they both mean as little as any other magical internet upvote or karma or thumbs up. I never mention leaving feedback to a buyer at any point. I will notice if I've done something extra for a buyer and they still don't leave it, but I just shrug that off. Maybe one third of my buyers leave feedback, including return buyers who were obviously happy with their first purchase. It's just not a priority for buyers. Though I always leave it as a buyer because I have an annoyingly naggy good-girl conscience.
I really cringe at sellers who leave harsh replies to their bad feedback. Just saw one replying "there's always some a**hole..." to a rather mild comment. So unprofessional.
If you're 100% you're all good! Let the rest of it roll off your back.
Buyer can get that remark removed by CS and the seller will get a violation.

The main reason we have feedback for buyers is that it causes more buyers to leave feedback when sellers participate.
I beg to differ. If it caused more buyers to leave feedback, we wouldn't have so many sellers stating they leave feedback at payment but never receive feedback from the buyer.
You misunderstood me.
I did not say that ONE seller leaving feedback for a larger percent of that seller's customer would cause that seller to get more feedback.

Personally, I wish that instead of feedback, eBay had a spot for "successful transactions" as both buyer and seller.
As it is, with so few leaving feedback, you can really take a hit when one buyer comes along and doesn't understand things and leaves a negative for their mistake. I've never seen " I bought the wrong size and it's the seller's fault" or " I assumed the converter came with the item, even though in bold letters the seller wrote NO CONVERTER"

With all due respect, I misunderstood nothing. I never said you said that ONE seller leaving feedback would cause that seller to get more feedback.
You SAID, we have feedback for buyers as it causes more buyers to leave feedback when the seller participates.
Actually, we have feedback because originally it was supposed to give each party a chance to evaluate the other's behavior, until it evolved into a simple thank you to the buyer.
Only the seller is evaluated.
I said, I beg to differ, because if it did, we wouldn't have so many sellers posting that they post feedback for ALL buyers at payment, and they never receive any feedback from that buyer.
If your statement were true, the percentage of feedback that sellers who post at payment receive would not be 10 to 30%.
In other words, 70 to 90% of buyers who receive feedback at payment don't bother to leave feedback in return.
So while your statement MAY occasionally be true, it is supposition, and a generalization that is largely false, which is why I respectfully beg to differ.

I also am sorry that you lost your husband. My husband was KIA in Iraq in 2004 so I know how hard it is. I just bought an 'Old Crow' ad from you. My dad was a liquor salesman for many many years in Little Rock. He only took 2 years out to have a Shakey's Pizza Parlor in Tampa before we moved back to Little Rock and he got his old job back. 'Old Crow' was his main brand that he sold. I will be honored to have a piece of your collection. I will definitely leave you feedback. Take care.

It seems,or perhaps I misunderstood, thatsome people I posted my question because I wanted more feedback or something of the sort.NO! I have lots of feedback,so that is not it at all. I simply wanted an answer, and I have received several replies in which I got very good answers. I have been away from Ebay for several years. I have recently come back. Many things have changed and I was asking because I truly wanted to know. Perhaps I should have phrased it a different way.

Op, with all due respect, it is hard to take your OP as anything other than your wanting more feedback; title is How do I get people to add feedback? and you say you don't understand why no feedback is left.
That said, I am sorry for your loss; this must be heartbreaking for you, and I wish you much success in selling. God bless you.

With all due respect, I disagree. I leave feedback to each & every of my buyers, yet most of them don't reciprocate. Not that I care as no news is good news in this business.

What i have found about receiving feedback is a simply very quite answer---"Feedback today doesn't look good--tomorrow looks doubtful as well"
Don't worry about it--The best Feedback a seller can get is posted with $$ received in your paypal account

Yes, I did misunderstand your original post - it can happen, as others have pointed out since there seems to be many who find the boards and ask the same question, in various forms, over and over. And, there are those who seem, at times, just do it to 'tweek'.
I do appreciate the graciousness of your reply.
As mentioned, and put forth so well by others, ebay has changed - a lot. One might want to tread gently to see if it is still as viable a venue as it once was for them or is thought to possibly still be. And, if one needs a challange or diversion, ebay can occupy as much time as you are willing wo spare it.
Spend some time reading the boards to get a feel for the direction of the wind. Best of luck.
