I need to talk to Ebay customer support directly by phone . All their lines are automated it looks like.

By phone? It seems you wait for them to call you, after you make a request for a call-back.
You may get a quicker and more valid answer by asking here, on the forums, since the ones here are users.

I can get a CSR to call me with in 2 minutes almost every time. Just follow the prompts using the "contact us" link found at the bottom of the page.

I've had better luck with the chat. It starts off as a bot, but you do get to a person within a few steps. It takes a while because they seem to be helping 10 people simultaneously, and sometimes they're completely not paying attention and asking you to do things that are utterly irrelevant to the issue at hand, but so far I've been able to get all my issues with support resolved via chat, and it's a lot more efficient that the phone calls I've made. Plus you get a written record of what they said, emailed to you at the end.

Ebay customer service is located overseas. The agents read from scripts, tell you what you want to hear, send you on your way and solve nothing. Although as suggested the chat options can be somewhat positive, you can also contact ebay through social media:

These are credible US CS agents who actually work for ebay and can help you resolve your issue. There have been many posts here in the forum of very positive outcomes. Give it a shot. Good luck.

I've had good luck resolving questions just using the chat feature.
