Horrible horrible “buyers” today (fun story)

I had an auction end after 7 days. It sold for $160.  2 days pass and buyer replies to my message asking if they still want it with “I DON’T HAVE ANY MONEY I MUST CANCEL”  so I say OK and cancel it.

I relist and accept ab offer for $130. This buyer then asks a million questions they should have asked before making an offer and decides they don't want it so I cancel that one too.

I relist again and instantly get an offer for $130 from the first buyer who said “I DONT HAVE ANY MONEY” just an hour before!!!!! I blocked both of them.

What is wrong with these people????

EBay seems to be attracting  "shoppers". Eventually your item is bound to attract a real buyer.

Don't give up

I wonder myself. I had a buyer send me best offer I accepted she paid then the next day asked to cancel it. I canceled and gave her her money back but what a waist of time. I blocked her from buying from me.

I have a main store on a different platform. I sell a few things here from time to time and I DO NOT see 99% of the problems I see on here. Ebay is a nightmare. They have attracted bottom-barrel "buyers" and encourage scammer/time wasters/etc with their disasterous policies. I would never dream of migrating my 800+ items listed on said other platform here. I would sooner throw some of this stuff in the trash at this point than deal with this nonsense on here.

When is Ebay going to get into this century and hold these "buyers" responsible for paying for the items they bid on or make an offer on? Other platforms require a form of payment. Totally unfair but not surprising. Sorry this happened to you...has happened to me more times than I care to count...:( Yes....I do know that I could(and do)require immediate payment on my buy it now items, but when an offer is made...that changes. "Buyer" makes an offer and then ghosts like they never made an offer on the item. Recently, a buyer made an offer, I accepted, then I got blasted with messages from the "buyer", stating, "I did not bid on this item, why are you sending me an invoice? I copied and pasted the item details with their offer..2 days later, "buyer" pays. Go figure.

"Do unto others..."  honestly, if you went to these folk's place of business, job or garage sale and pulled this nonsense, they wouldn't tolerate it and would likely be so indignant as to lose their...ahem..stuffing and having you escorted off the premises.  And they'd be right...

So why is it okay to do it to someone else just because you aren't face to face?  I must be from another planet, I seem to recall my elder units clanging into my memory chips something about "How would you feel if X was done/said to YOU??" followed by a mild stinging sensation across my antennae.

Seriously, this kind of thing HAS become so prevalent it makes it hard for any of us to enjoy the experience here, seller or buyer.  It makes it everyone suspicious, fearful of making an offer or answering a question because we often live to regret it, thanks to knuckleheads.

Eh?  I'd up it to $170 with BO and keep your "buyers" on your blocked list.

Well since you have at least two quasi-willing buyers and you have a ballpark of what it would sell for:

List it  as Fixed Price somewhere between $170 and $130 with Best Offer.

Or use Fixed Price and Immediate Payment required.

I'd suggest using Free Shipping and including the cost of shipping in your price.

Most of the problems we hear about are on Auctions and it seems to me that the problem is the auction format.

@partsman330 -- Is your other site fixed price or auction?

1)  Some sellers rewarded them in the past with a discount for their below market value cheap offer.

2) They are other sellers, so they figure the seller they are making the poor offer too also has no sales as they don't have any sales themselves.

3) They go to the ebay homepage or read the constant emails ebay sends about cheap, cheaper, cheapest!

4) They are used to buying something on ebay and then immediately ebay sends them notification of the same item for less $

5) Their mom always said "There, there, how can I make it better?"

6) They complain to the store manager everywhere they go, protesteth too much but oh so badly want it.

7) Can't say, I must stay out of trouble.

😎 Can't say...I must stay out of trouble!

My advice? Even if you desperately need the sale, never let them see you sweat.

Atleast they didn't pay and then ask to cancel..... you don't get 2.9% back from Paypal anymore upon refund.

There are multiple reports that Paypal customer service is saying they put an indefinite hold on this and are not holding the 2.9%.  Followup by multiple sellers that current cancels and returns for refund are being refunded in full including the 2.9%.   However, be aware this could change at any time.

That is truly a frustrating situation, however, be grateful both of these buyers did not actually buy your item. The nightmare would have been far worse if they did, including wasting your shipping costs and having to pay for their return. Block and move on to more serious buyers.

There are certain times of the year where you will get buyers who are not sellers and they will pay the prices you ask with no problem. Then there are slower times of the year when you get seller/buyers trying to get a huge discount.
