Hi,
I sold my first two items on here, obviously a noob and I'm not from the US. I sold both for a total of U$S 360 and eBay has just sent me an invoice for almost U$S 95. That's a ridiculously high sum! I was obviously not aware of how this site operates, I certainly don't understand why they are charging me such a high percentage from my sales. I used this site as I was told that the fees were similar to those from the e-commerce sites I always use in my country, around 9%. Thank you

$95 on a $365 sale is 26% - if you charged shipping, you may have incurred a FVF on that as well which would make your total FVF slightly more reasonable (no matter how stupid it is that ebay can charge you on shipping as though anyone but the shipping company profited from it).
ebay's Final Value Fees range from 2-12% with most categories at 10%, and books/DVDs/movies at the high end. A 10% fee would require an additional $585 in shipping costs to be valid.
It is also possible that you are mistaking your total monthly fees for the FVF on a single item. When ebay shows your monthly fees, they include listing fees, final value fees, and subscriptions to ebay stores and related services. Have you accounted for all of these?

Your invoice detail will show you detail for each fee you were charged - the fee amount, the date, and the type of fee.
There are dozens of things that eBay could be charging you for - without that information all we can do is take wild guesses.

You used Reserve on some of your ended listings, the fee for a Reserve is very high and it's not refundable if an item doesn't sell.
Just an FYI - Reserves are a BAD thing on eBay they dramatically reduce the chance you will sell something. If you insist on listing as an Auction it is much better to start at the price you want and forego the reserve.

My seller fees generally match about what I make in profit from one week of sales . Tulips

eBay is also known for charging you for services you did not order such as randomly adding Gallery Plus fees to your listings, double billing, and similar so called "glitches". In reality everything occurs within eBay's system because someone wrote computer code to make it happen.

There are many ebay fees, it would be good to acquaint yourself with all the different fees; Ebay generates a lot of revenues from extra fees. (All fees are charged in US dollars)
There are
- International site visibility for auction-style listings
-Reserve fees
-Insertion fees
-Final value fees (including a ebay cut of your shipping cost)
-Gallery Plus fees
-Bold fees
-Short duration fee
-Subtitle fees
and more, so be careful!
