How do I know if a ebay buyer is legit? I sold my macbook to someone but their messages haven't made a lot of sense. They paid me through ebay but it still worries me...do I just go ahead and ship it since they paid me through paypal via ebay? Or can than get messed up?

Make sure the money is actually in payPal. Wait until you are 100% sure. Listen to this board.

To answer your questions, you never know if a buyer is 'legit', and anything can always get messed up.
To help you try to AVOID that happening I can recommend...
Be 100% sure that you have in fact, received payment. Go into your Paypal account, and confirm that payment is complete (not pending at all), and your account balance went up accordingly. Solid, completed payment shows in green with a '+' before it, I'm not sure how an echeck or pending payment shows, someone might have more input with regards to that (I haven't had one in awhile).
From there, you have no choice but to fulfill your obligation and ship the item. Ensure it is packed safely and securely, get tracking on it, insure it for the full $ amount of the purchase, and pay the extra $$ to add signature confirmation (you might even be able to add signature confirmation that requires on the recipient to sign, not sure on that one though).
As fas as I know, that is the best you can do at this point. Should your buyer decide they want to return it, come back here for assistance at that point. Hopefully, it will go well and you won't have to come back! 🙂

Be very careful, check your paypal account as already advised.
Your buyer has bid on around 22 laptops and a few mobile phones.

I thought so but buyer has 217 feedback so it can go either way. If the OP coes back maybe we will see.

Not to speculate needlessly here, but from the way OP describes it it really sounds like one of these foreigners trying to take advantage of the glitch on mobile where it shows it's paid when it really isn't yet.
The buyer is probably trying to get OP to hurry up and ship it without verifying payment.
As has already been mentioned above OP, you can protect yourself the best by making sure payment has cleared and shipping with tracking information, insurance and signature confirmation.
Best of luck!
