I sold 2 of one item and only have 1 left. I know I can credit the amount through paypal but then I will have to pay Ebay fees on both. I already screwed up so I would like to handle on my end and not get customer to have to cancel order. Any idea?

Is this an item that another seller might have? Could you buy that item for your buyer to avoid the out of stock defect? Is it something you can buy local?
Just some thoughts. Good luck.

if you can't get another for them, can't find it... then you stand up straight and tell the buyer what happen... refund them ... if they want the one, then send it...if they want none, refund and cancel to order.
it happens, and trying to avoid a defect is silly too...you can by finding a replacement, and maybe getting a ding for late shipping...who knows....the negative feedback would ouch too....so you make them happy and see what they will accept....
sometimes the only good thing to do is to do what you have to....if you do it a lot then yes it will hurt in the end..but really make the buyer aware, happy as you can...be done with it.
