I sold an item through GSP and yesterday received a msg. from EBay that I had a return request because item delivered broken.
Msg. said I had until Jan. 28th to respond to request or buyer could on that date ask eBay to step in and help by opening a case.
When I go to request details it states that if I believe it was damaged after its arrival at GSP shipping center to please wait till Jan. 28th and escalate to customer support.
From the pictures the buyer sent to Ebay I can tell it had been repacked and believe it was damaged after it left Kentucky.
What makes me nervous about this request is that this is not a case in resolution center but yet my payment in PayPal is being held and the other is having to wait until the 28th to settle this return.
Also will this buyer be able to leave feedback.
Has anyone been through this? Your input would be very much appreciated.

Call Ebay CS and ask for a GSP Specialist. Point out that this is a GSP sale. You fulfilled your responsibility by getting it to KY in one piece. They re-packed it. It is their responsibility after you get it to KY safely, not yours.
Good Luck. You should keep the money and GSP refunds the buyer.

I don't do GSP but my understanding is you will need to call CS and ask for a GSP specialist. Tell them that the buyer received the package damaged. GSP will need to handle the claim. You will keep the money and the buyer will be refunded.
If I'm wrong I'm sure others will let me know!

I believe ( yes Margie, it's an opinion) the seller must seek relief from eBay's GSP. The damage was by GPS or thereafter in transit from them to the buyer.
Your responsibility ended when GSP accepted your shipment to them. If the damage had occurred on the way to GSP, it would likely by your responsibility. It's why we insure, isn't it?
Had the item been damaged on it's way to GSP they would not have accepted it. It would have been returned to you.
If they repacked the item, why? If your packaging was damaged, GSP prevented you from filing a USPS insurance claim by tossing your original packaging and by causing you to incur the cost of returning the item from Timbuktu.
You need to file (just try to) some claim that takes you out of the trail of responsibility.

I would be calling ebay now tell them it is a GSP sale & they should handle the refund or return to pitney not you.

In general, you will be responsible under the eBay Money Back Guarantee policy for the loss of, or damage to, a GSP item until it is accepted at the Global Shipping Center or if the item has been returned to you from the Global Shipping Center.

You are right, your responsibility mostly ended at the doorstep of the GSP plant in Erlanger.
Do phone (you'll get a PIN fromHelp andContact) and explain that.
The repacked parcels have a note in them from eBay/GSP.
I'm in Canada and one of my two GSP purchases was repackaged, badly, and that is what happened.
Ask if the buyer can send a scan of the GSP note.

If they repacked the item, why?
Customs.
If the seller does not clearly state the contents and their origin, GSP will open the package to learn what is in there and then repacks with whatever is handy.
GSP is paying applicable duty on shipments based on the seller's description.
My repacked package was a book, from an US seller, which was put into a 30"x24"x4" box with paper packing. The book, which might have been printed in China, but wasn't, was 24"x8"x1/2".
