Hi all, I was selling a mid-range gaming laptop and listed the starting bid at $440. Then I get a message that two buyers have made $1000 offers. I was kinda blown away but thoughtlessly accepted one.
Only now have I done some research and found out that this is a scam tactic. I thought something might've been up but I wasn't sure how something like that would work. I know that I should've done my research BEFORE accepting the offer but here we are now.
Obviously, this is a scam. Is there any way to point this out to eBay and get them to cancel my offer acceptance? Do you have any advice? I won't be sending the laptop obviously because I know that I'll never get it or any money.
He also gave me his email address and asked me to send him more photos before sending payment. I sent him the photos I had used on the listing but was confused by the request as the photos covered pretty much everything. Is this something that I can use to help get out of this offer?
Any help is appreciated, thanks

They plan to send you a fake payment notice through e-mail.
Report the ID here for trying to take the sale off eBay.
In a few days you can cancel for non-payment. Trust me, they will not pay.
Since they're a clear-cut scammer and you're reporting them for policy violation, you can cancel today using problem with address as the reason.

You are a new seller and that combined with the fact that you are listing a high target item for scammers present a perfect storm. Stay away from using OBO in your listings and as a new seller you may want to consider using BIN with immediate payment required although this does not keep you from being a target it does reduce your risk somewhat.
As wastingtime101 suggested cancel the transaction and report the buyer/scammer. Even if the buyer legitimately pays through the eBay process odds are this is still a scam. Add the buyer to your BBL and relist the item if you so choose

It is a 100% GUARANTEED Fraud. There is NO reason for them to do this. Not a legit reason anyway. I can guarantee you that they are trying to steal your money or your product or maybe both.
NEVER take ANY part of an Ebay transaction Off Ebay. Not only is it a serious breach of the Ebay rules and can lead to you losing the privilege of selling on the site, but the ONLY reason a buyer would want to do this is to STEAL from you. There is NO upside to this for you at all.
Your response to them should just be a simple one.
All communication and payments will be handled on the Ebay site only. There is no legitimate reason to do otherwise.

To: dbfolks166mt: you had this in your post: "... but you may also want to look at local options for selling the item. Electronic items tend to sell pretty well on local forums especially if you are in or near a large metropolitan area".
Thanks for this. After reading of all the scams involving electronic items I will list my Atari 2600 game console and 10 or so game cartridges somewhere else. Don't want to get screwed out of money. Thanks to everyone else also posting warnings on this subject.
