Long ago when I was selling anything and everything under the sun, I had some adult oriented items for sale.
I noticed one buyer who purchased from me was my old high school Chemistry teacher. I was like... I KNEEEEEW IT!!!

I sold something to someone in my old neighborhood (different state where I haven't lived in over 40 years). The letter carrier recognized my name on the package and got my email address from my mother, who still lived in the neighborhood. The postal employee and I used to work together during college, before I sold on eBay and he worked for the USPS.
I also had a deal go bad with my husband's ex-boss's daughter. That was embarassing.
Another package went to an old friend's cousin. She ended up buying a lot from me.

Oh, yea I once sold an item to my ex-boss' daughter too. She bought a piece of underwear lol. Had I told my boss "Hey, here's your daughter's underwear, can you give it to her for me?" I'm sure he woulda murdered me.
Not so much relevant with this post, but rather my original... if you want to buy discretely, increase your chances and don't buy from a seller in the same state as you.

When my nephew was in the navy I sold a collectible item to his commanding officer.
Several times I have sold items to folks who lived within a mile or so of me.

On my philatelic ID, I have often sold to customers of our shop, now closed due to retirement.
I make a habit of adding a note about upcoming SF/F conventions (literary not comic cons) to my Canadian buyers of vintage science fiction which are coming up in their area.
I have twice met a customer who recognizes my 'fan name' on my badge since it is the same as this eBayID.
(A 'femmefan' is an old name for a female science fiction fan, from the days when we were few and far between.)
