Supersonic delivery, right?

Except  it represents 2 different packages picked up at the same time, one going to W Virgina and one to Texas.

I did go check my mail to be sure I hadn't somehow screwed something up...hard to do when you use an eBay label, but you know.

I also checked the tracing number with USPS directly.

Have you ever seen this with USPS?

Looks like somebody scanned your package with a hand-held scanner and forgot to change the setting from "Delivered" to "Accepted."

Yeah, had that happen. The scanner is in delivery mode and the USPS person forgets to put in in pickup mode. Shipped and delivered instantly. Of course the buyer is confused...and the tracking will never show it delivered to the right zip code...argh!

In the past, I did a lot of USPS Express shipments and about 25% did not arrive by the deadline, so the shipping was free!

Over a single months time, the "on time" went to nearly 100%...what? I decided to watch a package closely, and as soon as it said "delivered" I called the customer. Guess what, they didn't have the package! It came hours later after the on time or free deadline.

Looks like the unofficial, wink, wink, USPS policy is to scan it delivered if it's not going to arrive on time and deliver it asap so they don't have to refund the shipping cost.

Ayup. The tracking will correct itself as soon as later scans occur. @momdadsstash: Remember that tracking follows the package; it does not guide it. There is no need to contact either of your buyers about this, as none of it will affect the normal travel time of the packages. You can explain it to either buyer if they look at the tracking themselves and ask you about it, but otherwise it's not likely that they will notice anything unusual.

Ahh, that makes sense.

It was a pick up a hand held.

I'll forgive her,as she's usually great but I'm sure she's under a lot of stress as she's one that lost everything in the hurricane. On;y missed one day of work, too.

Hi @momdadsstash

It happened to me as a buyer.  Tracking showed ‘Delivered’ at a depot near the seller.

The erroneous scan never got corrected.   The package eventually was delivered to me without ever showing Delivered to my location.

Fortunately, the item was fine … so there was no need to deal with the nutty scanning in a dispute.  [Note:  the poor seller told me that all of the 50+ packages she shipped out that morning had the same mistake on their tracking details.]

@a_c_green

See my other post.  My tracking never ‘corrected itself’.  It always showed ‘Delivered’ at a depot near the seller.   It didn’t show any scan to my home.

And the buyer might get notified that their package was delivered … as I did, which caused me to contact the seller.  My seller was contacted by several buyers as soon the the mistake was made … as it triggered notifications.

I had that happen once when I put 2 Priority Flat Rate Envelopes in the big blue mailbox outside the PO on a Sunday. When I checked the tracking next day they both showed as being delivered to me. They never made any adjustments but both did get delivered to the buyers because I kept in contact with them since the tracking was not updating anywhere along the way.

Are you referring to the tracking as shown by eBay or by USPS.com? I know eBay has had a longstanding problem of lunging at the first mention of "Delivered" in a tracking update and ignoring (or never updating) anything further, but USPS.com reports every direct scan as well as several types of indirect scan in the tracking history.

@a_c_green

I’m talking about the USPS.com tracking info, which I checked as soon as I received a delivery notification … less than a day after purchasing the item.

My seller was in NC or FL … and I’m in CA.  [I first thought it was another ‘fake tracking’ scam, because I had 4-5 of those in the same time period.]

My package was scanned again after 1-2 days … and arrived a little late.  I checked tracking for the last time the day I got the package … and saw that the mistaken Delivered scan still showed near the seller’s location, which surprised me.  The final scan was my local post office … NOT my home.

I suppose the scan could have been corrected after that, but I stopped looking.  This was about a year ago.
