A number of tech firms way over-hired.  There's a problem in the swamp - if one even somewhat influential tech company does something, they all follow like little hatchlings following mama duck.

Online sales naturally ebb and flow with the seasons: pre-holidays, post-holidays, good weather, bad weather, tax time, summer vacations, covid and other pandemics, inflation, supply chains, employment, unemployment, the general good or bad mood of the buying public, the type of administration in Washington and state legislatures, the stock market, the consumer price index, interest rates, credit card debt ... you get the picture.

This ebb and flow of sales has been the case for me in the 25 years I've been selling here. So I don't even pay any attention to a lack of sales, as long as I'm on top of my prices, competition, and expenses.

Cheers, Duffy

Yes My sales chart looks like a broken comb...some days up then stale for a few days then starts back up? I cant figure any reason to it.

Ups and downs.    Amazon is laying off another 9,000 tech employees.

Yes they are, just like a lot of companies and that is not uncommon during high inflation and a slowing economy. The most recent layoffs are not related to their ecommerce segment but more towards their cloud and computing services segment. You can never tell in the wake of layoffs whether it is the result of a reduction in revenues in a given area or simply improvements in operations that result in reduced costs. This round looks like a combination of both.

I used to have 100s.  Too many became stale or just not saleable here due to a ridiculous increase in cross border PO prices.  Need a new strategy.

I had nine sales in the first few weeks of this year for $3,600+, then it was like somebody just turned off my visibility.  ZERO sales the last few weeks.

Of course, I am sure it had nothing to do with my posts about shadow banning and fraudsters not being removed....

@sakic92710

According to the suggested shipping prices with the new program (eBay's EIS) it was supposed to bring down postage costs. It appears it has done just the opposite based on what Canadians are now seeing when they go to check routine shipping with US sellers. (Parcels under 1 lb)

I have at least 18 parcels to pack this morning from the weekend and Monday, so probably no.

That's the orders I've already pulled, still have a few to hunt down before I can pack them as well.

Some are MQ as well which is always nice.

Nope. I'm pretty consistent every week.

I sell on multiple platforms including Amazon, Mercari, and Poshmark.

Previously, eBay was number one in sales last year by a huge margin. It's now dead last. Amazon's keeping me afloat.

I don't know what the heck eBay's doing but this isn't normal at all. I'll go 2-4+ days with zero sales then suddenly make $300-$500 in a single day. Something's VERY wrong with this site. I've never seen it behave like this in the years I've been selling on it.

Yes. People come here every day to report a "drop in sales" yesterday, last week, last month.

Some even give a specific date when their sales have dropped.

This has been going on for 20 years.

Drops in sales are quite common.

Not everyone is running on the same algorithms, but at least for ourselves, there was very clearly a change in the algorithms that happened overnight March 9th-10th. Huge shift in traffic and patterns.

EBay was very obviously doing updates that week as well, as I had reported an issue with handling times (included screenshots). That resolved (mostly) after the weekend, but still isn't working completely correctly.

ATM for us, orders after midnight but before 3-4AM are counting as "Ship Same Day" even though they're 1 day handling time (not 0). It does NOT even happen the same from day to day, sometimes an order at 3:30AM counts same day ship, someday it counts next day ship.

So it's not just algorithm changes that cause drops, it's the non-stop glitches that are either never fixed, or like in this case, only partially fixed.

experiencing exact same thing, will get a whole bunch of orders in a row, and then nothing for days, and then a whole bunch come through and right back off,,,it never use to be that way, something is turning ebay searches off and on, whether its within ebay search itself, and or outside via other search engines. Last week went 6 days in a row without a single order, in our 15 plus years of business on here never has that happened. (yes spring break was a big culprit I think, but still). amazon is a fairly constant steady flow no matter what...like you said making that amount in a short period of time has been the same pattern here, the week before last pulled in a very high pay out, for last week however almost a 100% drop to near nothing in the payout, thats not normal and means something is wrong.
