I swear that none of my items had this selected, then I get up today to see an offer from a buyer. I KNOW that I did not have this item or any of my items on best offer. What gives, eBay?? This is not the first time that I've had my listings manipulated by eBay? It is unethical and should be illegal! Now, I have to go back and change every listing back. "Best offers" cheapen listings; it smells of desperation. I don't HAVE to sell anything. I've about had it with eBay changing things in listings behind my back. It happened twice that an item was marked Priority shipping when I know that I did not choose that. eBay calls it "glitches." I call it extortion... BTW, eBay, I didn't take the buyer's offer, even though it was actually a reasonable offer, out of principle. So, you lose!

This glitch happens from time time..
You have to manually remove it but never fear eBay now encourages buyers to send seller's offers via the eBay message system, even when the seller doesn't have offers enable..
Yay...

@Anonymous
This appears to be today's glitch de-Jour....
We use a listing template and tgat seems to avoid these issues. Good luck!

Are you using the quick listing tool? Are your prices above average? I heard after a week or so that eBay will put best offer on the listing if that's the case.
I believe it is you who loses when you decline a reasonable offer. Cutting off your nose to spite your face is not a good look.
Parcel Select that cost just pennies less than Priority Mail is not a good choice either. That little bit of savings is not worth it when you consider the cost of free insurance free box, and the item getting delivered in a couple of days instead of a week. I think eBay said they were phasing Parcel Select out, and for good reason.

@Anonymous
I'd recommend a bulk listing, removing the 'Make Offer' feature. At least you can change every listing at once. Good luck.

I said "semi-reasonable".... I thought about accepting it for a split second, only because I really want some stuff sold to get extra cash for a trip. The buyer is on the other side of the country, and I have free shipping on the item which is already about as low as I can go to make anything. I did give a counter-offer.
On ebay, you lose out all the time, anyway, esp as a seller.

Also, yes, I used the quick listing tool. How did you find this out about eBay reverting listings? I have no problem with them making it a requirement - just TELL people instead of doing it in an under-handed way.
I use first-class on the majority of my items. They're stuffed toys. Why would I use priority or parcel?
07-10-2021 11:28 AM
I'm not sure how I could do that on the items I sell, but thank you for the tip.
07-10-2021 11:30 AM
But you did not say it was a semi-reasonable offer. Go back and read what you wrote. On my end it says "it was actually a reasonable offer"

Sorry but you didn't actually say what method you chose. When you don't give all the details then you leave it up to us to assume what happened. Parcel Select is being phased out so that's why I answered the way I did.
BUT if it was a glitch then you could've made a First Class label on PayPal if eBay wouldn't let you.
Sorry you're having a bad day.

“BTW, eBay, I didn't take the buyer's offer, even though it was actually a reasonable offer, out of principle. So, you lose! ”
What? No, your buyer loses, you lose, not eBay! Standing on principal can be a positive thing, but why penalize an unsuspecting buyer, who has no clue about the behind-the-scene machinations, by rejecting a suitable offer? So the buyer loses, and you lose a sale. Ebay loses nothing.
It’s maddening, i know, when eBay adds a Best Offer feature when the seller doesn’t choose it. This is a known practice. To avoid it in the future, try using the Advanced listing tool, and not the app or Quick listing tool.

@Anonymous... This is easy-peasy.
1) From the Seller Hub, hover over Listings and select 'Active'. 2) When your listings populate, tick the box to 'Select All'. -It's the very top box... in the grey bar above your listings. After you Select All, each listing's individual box will be 'ticked'.
3) Next, select 'Edit', and choose 'Edit All (#) Listings'. 4) When your Edit Listings page populates, tick the top left box again to Select All. 5) Push the 'Edit Fields' button and choose... "Price, quantity, Best Offer'. 6) When the next screen populates, select 'Remove from all' (from the Best Offer field) then 'Save and Close'. 7) Finally... Submit.
Well, it's 'easy-peasy' when you've done it as much as I have... but it sure reads pretty tough. LOL

Hi @Anonymous ,
eBay started the practice of turning on the unsolicited Best Offer function a while ago. What they decided on items created with the Quick Listing tool was to turn that feature on if they determined the asking price was ABOVE the "market average". They were asked "where" do they get their pricing to determine the market average, but other than eBay they declined to share that with their Business Partners (Sellers).
The fix for this at the time was to advise Sellers to switch to the Advanced listing tool which today is called the Business tool. It is used by Store Owners and available to ALL sellers, just ignore the warnings not to switch. There should be a link on your current tool in the upper right that leads to switching tools, here is a link too.

Now, one of my listings was removed for being a counterfeit item when it is definitely not! Looks like someone reported it out of spite or eBay doesn't like what I have to say here. Hmm... ~karma It comes around. Does not bother me a bit.

I meant to, if I did not. Looks like eBay may be into post editing now, too. Scary times we live in.
