Can someone tell me how I had a week of 50% delivery success rate using ebay's labels and tracking numbers. I have been hit on my Seller Metrics 4 times, which will now take me out of Top Seller down to Above Average. I have worked hard to get to Top Seller, I have same day turn around and on the report ebay has me listed as having a 3 day turn around!!
But what's better than all of that is that I have called ebay customer service and spoke to them about products not arriving to buyers even beyond the time frame after the buyer let me know. I can't track any of the tracking numbers through any service carrier; and the app I have that I use for everything I ship can track every carrier in the world....but not these ebay tracking numbers. I was told I needed to take it up with USPS, so that is exactly what I did. I went into the Post Office with my basket of stuff ready to ship and pulled an associate aside to speak to them before I just went up there and let them take the basket and give me a new one. I asked her if she could run a few tracking numbers for me; so I opened the app on my phone and gave her tracking numbers provided by ebay from a handful of random orders. She couldn't get a single one to come up, she even noted that "wait, these aren't USPS tracking numbers", so she opened up an international tracking system that they use (which I asked, and she provided me with the website) and still couldn't locate any of them. She asked if it was ok if she grabbed some of my envelopes (thick cardboard envelopes) so that she could look at the labels. This was when I was officially shocked, and feel like I'm lucky if any of my products make it to the location they are supposed to go. She proceeded to go through several stacks of envelopes, all with exact same type of label; obviously just varied names, addresses and tracking numbers. She looked up at we with a confused look, and proceeded to inform me that those labels from ebay were not a USPS product and I needed to reach out to ebay....which we have already been over. Did that first and foremost. But if I am getting labels from ebay that state it is a "US Postage First Class" label ON the label....why is it not a product of the United States Postal Service?
So now, I have to get on the phone with ebay tomorrow (I'm sorry for this, but...) hoping I get someone competent and try to figure out why I am getting knocked on my Top Seller Metrics for items that never arrived based on the labels and tracking numbers that ebay is providing. I'm not looking forward to it because I appealed a hit I got for one that didn't show up and I refunded the buyer as soon as I got an alert from ebay. They did supposedly repeal it, but I was emailed a lecture about how I was blessed to get that opportunity, since as sellers....we are only allowed one successful appeal of that type every 12 months.
I sell sports cards, and I do pretty well on ebays platform. But, if they don't fix these dings on my Metrics, and they don't work on fixing the shipping label and tracking number issues...I will have no other choice but to go to a different platform where there are no seller fees and they don't have these types of issues; because you literally have to apply in order to be able to sell on that platform. I am currently giving my all to ebay and worked hard to get my Top Seller identification.
But, point blank...at least for trading card sellers, this mess has to stop. I can't be the only one this is happening to either; so, obviously anyone and everyone is invited to reply, or give opinions. But please, if you are a trading card shop (no matter the trading card type), please chime in and let me know if you have had any issues in your own operation.
I know this is longer than I wanted or expected it to be, I'm just so frustrated. Moderator, please don't provide a statement and end this possible thread. I was told by every CS person I spoke with that ebay wants to hear about these issues from their respected sellers, so I want people to speak out if they are having similar issues.
Thanks,
Static Sports LLC

It appears you are talking about the eBay envelopes as opposed to USPS ground advantage or Priority mail, The ones with the tracking number that begins ESUS - is that correct?
Rather than typing out a long maybe irrelevant answer, let me know If that is the case and I will point out what the most obvious and common problems are along with their solutions.
Bear in mind it is the middle of the night here so if I do not hear back soon then I will answer in the morning.

It’s the middle of the night here as well, and I’m getting tired of getting dinged for something that is out of my control. eBay says that the PWE is usps product and usps says it’s not. But the fact that I get hit with any mark because someone can’t deliver it and because eBay’s tracking numbers can’t be tracked through any system including eBay’s should tell you something is wrong. There is nothing irrelevant about any of it when I have to take time out of my day 2-3 days a week to straighten this crap out. I don’t make the labels, the tracking number and I don’t deliver it. So why should I be getting knocked down for it and be told that I’m lucky they removed one. I know if I leave it’s not gonna make them bag an eye. But it’s pretty poor customer service when they can’t see that it’s even been mailed out but I get hit with the defect.

A cursory search of these boards came up with these threads, most of which allude to the same issue you are having:

@static_sports, you didn't answer the question.
However, I looked at some of your listings, and you are offering eBay Standard Envelope (eSE) for some items which do not qualify for it. This suggests that you don't know what the requirements are, or how to package items to be eligible to ship by eSE.
For example, this listing for packages of 10 card dividers. They are described as "semi-rigid", and would be shipped in packs of 10. You are offering shipment by eSE, even if multiple packages are purchased.

Also make sure the label is in the upper right corner. The envelope has to be able to easily bend 90 degrees, google USPS sorting machine and watch a video of one in action, that will give you a better idea of what that envelope has to go through.

It may be accidentally marked that way for some reason you managed to pick the one. But I don’t ship it that way, they always go out in padded envelopes. I can put you in touch with the buyer of the last handful of them.

Also, I’ve read the requirements for PWE and some of YOUR requirements don’t match up. It tells you to use top loaders, I won’t ship without, it also doesn’t limit it to 1/4 inch, but I don’t ship more than 1 card in a semi-rigid armalope….which does qualify for the PWE shipping.

So it wouldn’t make a lick of sense for one week having a 50% non-deliverable rate when I have packaged and shipped my products the same way since day one. Just like I get the exact same envelopes with the exact same products, packed the same way and I don’t remember not getting a card before.

One of your major problems is that you are using (in your own words) "thick cardboard envelopes" -- these envelopes are too rigid to be used with the eBay Standard Envelope (ESE) label. The ESE is intended to be used with a #6 or #10 "plain white envelope" (PWE), which can be flexible enough to be bended nearly in half when traveling at high speed through the USPS roller systems.
I've been successfully using the ESE for several years, mailing stamps, trading cards, and stickers; and I just use a simple #6 PWE. I trim 2 pieces from material constructed from either cereal boxes or 12 pack soda cartons -- these trimmed pieces should fit snugly inside the envelope. In between these 2 strips, add the item to be mailed, using either a penny-sleeve or a glassine envelope -- nothing which will be too rigid to be kicked out of the USPS high speed automatic roller systems.
Then seal the envelope, affix the ESE label tightly to the front, and mail it in the "Metered Mail" slots inside in the USPS lobbies -- the ESEs will then be treated like all other USPS contracted business metered mail, and assigned an acceptance number at the time that they are received at the next USPS Distribution Center.
Do NOT hand your ESEs over to USPS counter employees, or USPS drivers. And do NOT use the USPS "blue boxes" or the mailing services from private businesses, as all of these may delay the acceptance scan at the USPS Distribution Centers (or the scan may never even be received). Use the "Metered Mail" slot in many post office lobbies.
In addition, as @lacemaker3 pointed out to you, you are also attempting to mail items using the ESE which do not qualify for ESE labels -- please re-read the ESE product restrictions --
"As of Nov 2023, four additional categories are now eligible to use eBay standard envelope, expanding the service to eight categories. See the full list of category paths.
So some of your shipments are very likely being kicked out of the USPS automatic high speed mailing system for being "non-machinable." Eventually, these will either be shipped to your buyers and labeled "postage due" (which will not make your buyers happy!), or returned to you and labeled "insufficient postage." But don't hold your breath -- I've been waiting for the return of a similar item since the end of July!
USPS considers the ESE to be just another piece of contracted business metered mail, which USPS handles every day in numbers totaling in the hundreds of thousands. Metered mail does not use standard "tracking" numbers -- they receive an initial acceptance number at the time that they are received at the next USPS Distribution Center (and NOT at local post offices!), and possibly a "Delivered" number at the time that they are received at the post office matching the ZIP Code of the buyer's residence address -- but NOT the residence address itself. Actual delivery to the buyer's address usually takes several more days, or longer.
So, some very simple solutions to the problems which you are encountering:
(1) Do not use "thick cardboard envelopes" to mail items using the ESE -- the envelope MUST be VERY flexible!
(2) Review the items which you are attempting to mail via the ESE -- if those items aren't on the list, they can not be mailed using the ESE.
(3) Use the "Metered Mail" slots in the USPS lobbies for faster and more efficient acceptance and delivery.
The ESE can be an efficient and money-saving tool for eBay sellers, once some of the very basic rules are fully understood and regularly observed.
Good luck!

eBay Standard Envelope (ESE) is a metered mail shipment so it does not receive traditional tracking scans. The clerk at the PO counter cannot scan it and you can't track it on the USPS website. The envelopes are scanned by sorting machinery at distribution centers along the way and tracking will appear on eBay.
Common reasons ESE labels don't get scanned include:
- Overpacking. Envelopes are too stiff. It's not recommended to use trading card top loaders or cardboard mailers.
- Using ineligible packing material such as a bubble envelope.
- Placement of label. Label should be placed in the upper right corner with approx 1/8"-1/4" clearance from edges. If it's placed too far from the corner the machinery won't scan it.
- Placing items like coins in the center of the envelope. The center of the envelope needs to be the most flexible part.
- Printer ink is not dark enough, or label color is too bright (stick to white labels if you can).
- Regional issues with sorting machines, volume processing, etc.
With ESE, a 'delivered' scan generally occurs at the last sort facility before it gets to the buyer, so typically the buyer will receive their order a few days after the delivered scan.
If you find the tracking on eBay to be lacking, you can track the ESUS number on this site and sometimes find more info: https://parcelsapp.com
If a buyer files a not received claim, you do have insurance coverage and the claims process is outlined on this page: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/shipping-items/setting-shipping-options/ebay-standard-envelope?id=...

It's hard to be a 'Top Seller' when using those ESE envelope labels.
The envelopes do get delivered to the buyers...that's not a problem.
I would say all buyers receive them...not all buyers will be honest unfortunately.
I haven't lost anything in the mail using USPS in years.
The problem is basically scanning.
You might make it one month as a Top Seller and the next month maybe not.
And 'customer service' is like talking to artificial intelligence....they can't do anything.
I have been able to get 4 trading cards in standard envelope with a thin greeting card like cardboard in it for one forever stamp.

You are mistaken. Here is a link to the requirements for eSE. I copied and pasted some of them, go to the link to see the others. You are not required to use top loaders. You can use up to 2 top loaders, but only if the envelope still meets the other requirements. If the envelope is too thick, uneven or rigid to qualify as machinable, you can't use it.
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/shipping-items/setting-shipping-options/ebay-standard-envelope?id=...Envelope requirements
To use the service, it's important to ensure your envelope meets the below criteria. If it doesn't, the shipment may be returned to you, or the buyer may receive the item with postage due.
- No smaller than 3.5” x 5”
- No larger than 6.125” x 11.5”
- Envelope thickness is uniform, less than 0.25” inches at all points, and not too rigid
- Weighs up to 3 oz.
- Envelope contains NO clasps/strings/buttons or similar closure devices
- Envelope has recipient address parallel to the longest side
- Envelope is NOT enclosed or made of any plastic material
There's no point in arguing that "semi-rigid" is not "too rigid". If your envelope did not get scanned, then it didn't meet the requirements in some way.
There have been some suggestions that the machines at some sorting facilities are more or less able to handle stiff or uneven envelopes, so an envelope may be accepted some places and rejected at others. The only way to deal with this is not to push the limits.
