Hey guys, I need some help. I’m new to selling on ebay, and so far it has been a horrific experience. I sold a very expensive and Limited edition skateboard in my auction last week or so.
Message to the buyer and told him it would be there Friday, September 4th. I got a notification that the delivery failed because his receptacle was full and the package was oversized so they left a notice on his door to pick up at his post office or reschedule a delivery. The buyer just messaged me today and told me that he went to the post office yesterday to pick it up and they cannot find the skateboard and that they will call him back for him to pick it up. I am freaking out because I feel like I’m going to lose out on a very expensive item and that I am going to have to issue a refund. Does this mean I’m not going to get paid if US PS “lost” my skateboard even though they left a notice on his door to go pick it up there? I have tracking, receipts and everything. I even tried calling his local post office to see what’s up and could not get a hold of them at all.

Stop talking to your buyer. It is their responsibility to provide a secure location for deliveries.
eBay considers notice left, available for pickup, etc. the same as delivered. If your buyer starts an item not received refund request, eBay will close the case without a refund, and feedback will be blocked/removed if already left.
After that, you can file the insurance claim and refund the buyer.

The Post Office is actually pretty good about paying out claims for lost items. Hopefully you added extra insurance ?

Notice left for the buyer to pick up is the same as delivered on eBay.
If they file a chargeback it might turn out different because most credit cards only accept a signature as proof it was delivered.

I did! Luckily, but it wasn’t enough to cover the expense of the skateboard. Im an idiot

If they file an INR claim, enter the tracking number into the case, that is your proof of delivery

Btw, you can call their local post office directly and inquire about the status of the package by giving them the tracking number. Maybe he isn't telling you the truth about the post office losing it.

And there is this:
UNDELIVERABLE ITEMS
https://www.ebay.ca/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy?...
This is the part I'm referring to
Exclusions and special coverage when the buyer doesn't receive an item
Items collected by a third party on behalf of the buyer- Not covered
The buyer arranged their own shipping method, such as a courier pickup- Not covered
The buyer provided an invalid or incorrect address at checkout -Not covered

What does the tracking info show? Just in case the buyer isn't being truthful.

Sometimes packages do get buried under things or put aside in a place the clerk doesn't look. I once spent half an hour waiting to pick up a package because the clerk couldn't find it, and it wasn't a small package, either.
