Due to the 1099K change passed into law in March of 2021 by a "rescue plan" all online sales / TP processors will have to send a 1099K if the total sales amount if over $600 (including shipping paid by the buyer) for the 2022 tax year.
eBay is collecting this information so they can adhere to current tax law & U.S. government regulations by reporting you to the IRS if your income is over $600 starting this year.
That's why they need the information. And sadly, it's real.
