This '44 model (near the end of the The Apathetic generation - that questioned everything - the protest/riots, hippies came later) started paying for all my college expenses (tuition, room & board, books, weekly spending allowance 5 bucks per week freshman year, 10 bucks/week by my senior year that included $ for washing drying cloths, entertainment, dates, gas for my $350 '50 Mercury, a copy of Hugh Hefner's months magazine (interesting articles), legal smokes (just 1 joint ever) and snacks and some beer or vodka in the summer of 1964 - only worked 67 hours per week (11.5 M-F, 10.5 Sat. straight time, OT time and 1/2pay 2.54/hour assembling Ford Mustangs at the Dearborn Assembly Plant ( part of the Rouge Complex) worked each summer up thru the summer of '67. Same hours each summer straight time jumped all the way to 2.67/hr. Motown's Big 3 were building cars like crazy along with the supporting businesses steel mills, tool & die shops, etc (Mustang were built 68/hr then - what recession? Yeah the skies were smoky and the Detroit River and Lake Erie were well polluted on the US side - Canada had blue water but the Motown sound was top shelf - didn't get better than that. Dad a vet of WW I and a Purple Heart recipient passed away when there was only 48 stars on our flag - have that flag proudly displayed in our home.

I sure am glad I'm old enough to remember how to think and not depend on technology for everything and every decision I make. A friend told me his wife asked "How many feet are 120 inches" and reached for her smart phone. He got to it first and told her to just think for a moment. I wouldn't confuse the Greek alphabet with those "definitions" some like to ascribe to them. It's like saying somehow the number 1 is better than number 2 - they're just numbers.
Beta will meet its generational challenges just as the rest of us have. No generation is better or worse than any other, we just grapple with our daily sorrows and triumphs the best we can.

True enough and of course there are those born just prior to or just after the generational cutoff date assigned by some 3rd party. People are born everyday and those "generations" are specific to the "western world" ... I am sure folks on other continents could care less what has been generated here.
At the end of the day someone pays to get you in, you pay while you are here and then in most cases have to pay when you get out ... so the old adage that "it's all about money" applies ... sorry if that sounds morbid ...

Human beings have always tried to put things into categories to analyze and understand these things. For example, in science there is the taxonomy of plants and animals, periodic table of elements and rock classifications. It just seems natural that people want to put "generations" into categories to analyze and draw conclusions about behavior and attitudes.

I just think unless one has somehow ossified in their thinking, there's a lot of overlapping as successive generations come along and experiences change, time shifts, influences wax and wane, and we deal with current issues.
