You would think that an:
Item with 342 Views and 4 Watchers -
Item with 222 Views and 6 Watchers -
Item with 161 Views and 4 Watchers -
Item with 147 Views and 5 Watchers -
... would all have sold by now, they are all GTC listings on at least their 4th or 5th Relisting ...

I think some eBayers might be interested in what the items were and what price. I would.

Very true. As much as some would disagree there just happens to be items that are just not at the price point in which buyers are willing to pay. The other factor is how many other sellers are selling the same thing but cheaper.

Spruce up the photos, change the price slightly, research the others that you are competing with, re list or sell similar.

I have come to the conclusion that after a week or two watchers are not interested in buying an item. Most people simply forget to remove items from their watch list that they have long lost interest in.

Yeah, I know. With my buyer's hat on, there's a lot of stuff I see that I want, but the mad money fund does have its limitations.
You'll sell them, patience. Just move onto listing the next great thing. 🙂

@coolections, @tallpalms I would agree with that on some items but I also have Buyers that if they are really interested they message and ask about an item to see if there is any room in the price. Most of the items sold here are uncommon or there are not a lot for sale at any given time. So at times its kind of like, "okay, do something, either ask about it or buy it and put it out of its misery!"

forced GTC was supposed to boost sales with the perpetual URL in place, yadda yadda yadda....I have noticed no increase in sales since they started this, but im sure ebay is netting boosted fees for people getting burned on the auto-relists if they took advantage of the free listings that would put them over their montly allotment.
as an added bonus, it's harder to gauge buyer interest now that view counts accumulate and are larger based on the amount of time they have been listed. Would be a nice feature to view VIEWS/This Month to better gauge CURRENT demand/interest.

Yes, that was my understanding too about the history of a GTC listing ... more Views and Watchers would improve an item's chances to be sold ... if items are coming up in Best Match and amass huge quantities of Views and Watchers then I guess we just scratch our heads right?!?

Afternoon. The main point ebay made going with GTC en masse was it would enhance your standing/being seen in off ebay searches like Google...has not helped one single bit. Nada. Nothing.

Totally agree...have experimented with various listing durations over the years and it was realized many years ago already, that longer than 10 days for most of my items was futile as watchers were lost, views ceased or moved very little and sales were fewer on listings of longer duration. Now if I use GTC at all, the listings are ended 10-16 days after start date. GTC works for many sellers, many categories, but just does not work for me or my items. I am using auction listings more and even though some of the categories I list under do not lend themselves well to auction format, it's the best solution for me at this time.

Most of my heavily viewed/watched items never sell, or take a very long time to finally go. I'm assuming that they're just things that other sellers are interested in pricewise/sale wise.
GTC has helped very much with selling really long tail, older items, most with only a handful of views and no watchers.
And to the person upthread that mentioned watchers who put an item on their list then forget about it...that would be me. I rarely clean out my watch list, so there are a lot of things on there that I'm no longer interested in for whatever reason.

With my buyer's hat on...
the sense of urgency has been lost. However, on that same note, I see something in my watch list has been purchased, and durnit, I was watching that and thinking about maybe one day in the next month or two or twelve, actually getting around to seriously considering the possibility of maybe deciding while vacillating back and forth and mulling over it for days on end... the idea of putting money out there and buying it....
but now it's gone and somebody far more decisive went ahead and bought it out from under me, durnit! Right after I let it sit on my watch list which I reviewed often for weeks on end.

I think the last part about people forgetting an item is on their watch list probably sums up a lot of it along with @ersatz_sobriquet 's post about the item that sold on her Watch list and she missed buying it ...
From a straight % standpoint last month GTC sales were up to 51% of total sales which is about 6% higher then all of 1st Quarter this year. I am sure the quarterly Promoted Listing Campaign Aug 18 thru Sept 18 probably helped those numbers so the good news is, at least some are selling ... but certainly not any huge jump in sales like a 20% increase or anything.
