GTC Rip Off - Be careful when downsizing your store.

I knew this would happen to me and I only have myself to blame.  Be careful if you downsized your store in the GTC era.  I used to list 2200 items and downsized back to a basic store.  I went on a business trip for three days and just logged in to see 689 items ending today.  I checked and about 300 were ending in ONE minute.  lol.  I couldn't click fast enough and only ended 100 or maybe 150 fast enough.  I shouldn't have had breakfast first before shipping items today.

What a waste of money!  At least it's a tax write off but I could have avoided the ebay rip off of auto relist if I had paid closer attention.

@jayjaspersgarage   Don't feel bad ... there was a Seller in the UK who had about 9700 GTCs Relist in a month with 31 days BEFORE eBay changed the Auto Relisting to the same day each month instead of 30 days ... do the math, THAT is a big hit ...

Best regards,

Why are you accusing eBay of a ripoff, since you knew this would happen.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. Probably a more common problem than most sellers realize and could easily happen to anyone.

I cancelled my Premium store earlier this week and at the same time ended my 690 listings without regard to how long they had left to run so that I didn't run into a similar situation.

Ebay website and mobile was down this morning(First time ever for me....Anyone else have this problem today?) so I could not get on and cancel my GTC listings. Thank goodness I had some left but I wanted to use them for new listings. Now I only have 6 left. Good GRIEF.

Maybe allow yourself more of a cushion in case of future disruptions or emergencies?

Ripoff might be a harsh evaluation of this situation, but, I can see it as an intended consequence of GTC.  I think as sellers we are all responsible for our actions or inactions and need to stay on top of our listings. However, creating a program like GTC that anticipates and takes advantage of troubles or emergencies for your customers is unethical at best. There should be some remedies or recourse for sellers so that they don't suffer major financial losses.

Yea, many of us ended and then relisted items at the end of July to take advantage of remaining free listings.  So don't feel bad, yesterday I too had a whole bunch of small items get relisted with an insertion fee.  My bad.  A least I am now aware and cancelling all listings during the last hours until the first of the month.

Same, I'm not seeing how any of this is eBay's fault in the slightest.

The first thing I did before I downsized my store was end all of the items I didn't want to keep listed.  THEN I downsized.

What really irks me is that I can bulk edit my listings to make any changes,  but they have it set up so you can't use that same editing tool to bulk end your listings.  You have to do them one at a time.  I'm sure that is purposeful to prevent us from easily ending GTC listings.

Our major account was slated to be enrolled in managed payments in July.  Therefore, we had to move all our coin listings to our other account.  In addition, we decided that we would no longer pay for a store subscription for our other small selling account as the sales volume was low.   We didn't want to get hit with a early termination  penalty for discontinuing  it either.  That decision was made  because eBay intends for everyone to be enrolled in managed payments and if they try to enroll our other account we will no longer sell.  The subscription was set to renew August 1st,  and I had to delete 50 listings one by one which had to be done in July.  I can't begin to imagine how long it would take if I had several hundred listings.

I took responsibility for letting it happen.   I am mad at myself.  On the other hand I made 29K in profit selling elsewhere and anticipate leaving ebay next year if they enforce MP.  I sell coins and under MP they are not allowing coin sales.

You could have avoided this situation by simply ending those listings at the same time that you downsized your store - but you chose not to.

So I guess I have a hard time categorizing this as a "rip-off".

Congratulations! Clearing 29k every month would be 350k a year - if I had that kind of success I wouldn't be waiting for Managed Payments before leaving eBay!

Because its a disgusting money grab based on a policy meant to mislead sellers into charges.
