GREED

I have 400 transactions with ebay and have even sold a Porsche on ebay motors.

I just sold a stereo unit and delivered it to the buyer.  There is a 14 day hold on my funds.

Not eby's funds - my funds.  Ebay has taken their cut.  They just want the float on our money,

I have no incidents with ebay and no complaints.  I'm being treated as a "new" seller after 21 years on ebay.

SELL ELSEWHERE!!!!

If it's been a while since you've sold, yes, you are treated as a new seller.

I kind of doubt if you can sell a used audio cord for 2500 elsewhere

that is some esoteric cord you have sold

sell on ebay, you did and I think you got decent results

its against policy to tell us to sell elsewhere but you can buy anywhere you want and sell  here

good luck

This is the new "norm"

There are a variety of good reasons supporting "holds" on what is considered a "new" seller

due to your not being active for quite some time, your account is easy pickings to be compromised....

you basically have to prove you are you......

the holds (that are common on other platforms for new sellers) disappear pretty quickly once you sell a few items within MP (Managed Payments)

just because it "wasn't that way" 3 years ago, no need to get discouraged.....

LOL.  You may not be a "new" seller but you are certainly but an occasional seller who does not have the volume to back up the sale of a $2,300 item.  What did you think, that Ebay would take the risk for that sale if something were to go wrong?  Think again.  It is not greed but just a good business practice by Ebay.

Well let’s see. You have a feedback of 400. 369 of those are as a buyer (which is irrelevant to your record as a seller). 57 feedback as a seller. And based on your feedback (which we all know does not represent all of your transactions) your last sale was over a year ago. You neglect to mention the value of the stereo. But with such a large time gap between sales, and the sale of a (possibly) relatively expensive item, it is eBay’s stated policy to treat a returning seller from a somewhat distant past as a “new” seller.

I should sell elsewhere because they're holding YOUR money?

What does that have to do with me?

They're not holding MY money.

Ebay wants professional sellers.  Private independent sellers need to look elsewhere.

It is clearly a "new" corporate model.  Why service occasional sellers? - ebay just doesn't want the risk or rewards for only occasional use.  Too bad, used to be a great site.  But, to the enterprising a new niche in the market.  I hear Jack Ma is leaving China.

But its great if I've bought thousand of dollars worth of goods meanwhile, right?

No need to hold my funds back from those sellers.  You know your answer is ebay.

Correct.

Selling accounts with a good history but no recent selling activity are *exactly* the sort of accounts that scammers want to target in order to hijack them and perpetrate fraud.

I suspect that is why eBay is cautious about them.

When you say “you delivered it”, do you mean you physically handed it over to the buyer?

If so, you have no online tracking so it’s completely normal that eBay holds your funds.

What in the world are you talking about? You're a "new" seller. The policy applies to everyone who hasn't sold in quite some time.

Hi @mrlipton

I always cringe when I read posts like yours where eBay is holding some Seller's hard earned money ... yep "Seller's" in BOLD, Italics and underlined ... may as well use Capital letters too SELLER'S.

There has to be a better way for them to handle things like this ... and while I understand "why" they say they do it the fact of the matter is they could just as easily have someone there pick up the phone, call you and verify that you are who you say you are and not some cheap imitation ... then release YOUR payments to YOU ... sorry, forgot the formatting .. then release YOUR payments to YOU.

Not sure if you read the Help Pages on this subject, here's the link.
