While considering a potential buyer's bid on a book I've listed, I realized I inadvertently posted a couple of pics of a completely different book. I was planning to make a counteroffer but given that the item is de facto NID, I obviously can't do that. What's the best course of action here?

@mesodude Been there - done that - it happens. You have some options to consider based on the severity of the error. Here are some choices:
1. Message each bidder and explain you found an error on your listing and that you will be cancelling their bid(s), ending the item, correcting it and Relisting it. Let them know your actions may lose them as potential customers on the Relisted item but your concern is that you accurately list what you are Selling.
2. Let the Auction run its course, complete the sale and ship with a note inside describing what happened and that you will be more than happy to accept a return for a full refund if the undisclosed issue becomes a problem.
3. Once a bid is placed you can not change the listing BUT, you CAN add a comment in the description area ... you can explain the error on the listing and see what happens ... if Bidders message you to cancel do so and them send them a thank you message.

Contact the bidder and let them know of the error. Make whatever changes you need to make. The buyer can elect to stay or retract their bid(s).
-or-
Cancel the bid. End the listing. Make your changes. Re-post your listing.
Whatever you decide to do, i would do it right awau before there are any more bids.
Good luck to you!

Oooops! I did not know that. I haven't run an auction for so long.

Counteroffers can not be done on a bid.
Cancel the bid and end the listing early.

Thanks. I need a vacation. What I meant to say is that an offer has been made. It's not an auction. Sorry for the confusing post about my **bleep** listing.

Well just decline the offer . You MAY be able to revise the listing after doing so.. NOT sure.

Is there a down side to politely declining the listing and explaining to the buyer why--that I'd like to replace the incorrect pictures? Is it even possible to decline with an explanation? Ugh.

Thanks all. I countered the offer and mentioned the error in my listing. Buyer had noticed the mistake and accepted my counteroffer. Thanks again.
