Is anyone seeing the 'you agree to use Escrow.com for items over $10,000' or some such verbiage when listing a high ticket item? What in the world is going on? Everything I read states it is for luxury watches. Now, this message pops up suddenly when creating listings. AND to force a 7 day inspection period and override your return policy! This is simply unnecessary and now it will DELAY FUNDS even longer.

I have also suddenly received this for no apparent reason and my item isn’t even over $100.00. This isn’t right.

You've got at least one item listed at close to 10k... escrow makes sure you're both protected

I was about to list a set of NFL Trading Cards with a B.I.N. price of $45.00;
I saw the 'Message' about possibly needing to accept payment from 'Escrow.com'
and allowing them to over-ride my already compliant Return Policy--and decided to 'SAVE to DRAFTS'...I am NOT going to let them railroad me into yet ANOTHER flaming hoop I gotta jump through just to sell a few football cards so I can eat. Give em an inch, and they'll take a mile...I wouldn't be surprised if many sellers begin to DEMAND they give us BACK some of the 'luxuries' they've taken-away over the past few months; things like CHOICE of payment options, a higher Net profit, ZERO Final Value SHIPPING FEES, etc etc...
Feel like a frog in a pot of almost-boiling water...

Well, that's the real trick isn't it?
They start you off in cold water and you don't notice it gradually heating up to boiling............
I know the 10K limit over her (AU) is a standard precaution against money laundering, amongst other nefarious activities, but no idea why it would be on lower values, unless it is just a standard warning now to all which seems a bit overkill (and pointlessly confusing)
I have been imported from Australia and this is my posting ID

A smart buyer would never purchase a $10,000 item from you without having eBay's escrow service.

I just can't believe your selling items at THAT price point, not wanting to accept returns, and not liking having to use an escrow of any type. Wow...

I wouldn't even consider selling anything that pricey on eBay, it's too risky. It's not a good mix, like eating Kraft Dinner with Prime Rib.
** If you're selling high value sports cards I recommend scanning the cards instead of using photographs. It's shows the quality and defects better than a camera. **

Well, if you understand GRADED Sports Cards which have already been certified and verified in addition to the manufacturer's authentication, then YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND. Too many scammers/buyer remorse scenarios. Ebay managed payments is like a defacto escrow.
Having been an eBayer for over 20 years now, it has never been an issue. Why the 10k threshold? Why not 2k? 5k? That's still a tidy sum for most people.

Thanks for the info.
I have found it is difficult for the scanner to accurately depict the subtleties of the card, particularly with foil or refractors. Using an actual Sony camera with high resolution, in natural light, has served me well as opposed to a cell phone or scanner.
'Kraft Dinner with Prime Rib' is a great analogy. I am going to use that! However, eBay is truly the juggernaut for selling high ticket Sports cards. Again, selling mostly PSA/BGS Graded cards these days so buyers know what they are paying for. Blessings

Referring to my satisfied clients who have made purchases above that amount without escrow, I guess they are comfortable in my longevity and reputation on the site. Or, they are simply 'Un-smart' in your view"? lol.
That's ok. I have made sales over the internet from direct contacts through high end card dealers for multiples over that amount. Networking with happy buyers is truly a beautiful thing.
In any event, I have not had that message pop up recently so perhaps that requirement changed. I dunno. Blessings to you.

As I attempt to list my motorcycle for sale, I recall that when I sold another bike last year, I could demand a PayPal deposit and payment. However, I am currently unable to collect any deposit, and I am being compelled to use an escrow service.
