First time return, need help

Just had a quick question, I recently bought cards from a seller and it was in a bit worse condition than I expected (had scratches and dents that weren't visible in the picture) and I sent the seller a refund request to which they accepted but then proceeded to send me a dm. I've never done a refund before so I just wanted some advice if this was safe to do or if this is a scam? Should I be worried if the person can charge back through Cash App? Screenshot 2025-05-04 at 9.48.04 PM.png

As a card seller, I have had to do exactly what the OP's seller asked about.

The issue is that we can send the card with ESE for $.69, but for a return the only option is to send a GA label for $5ish. You can see how this doesn't work out if you want your under $10 card back.

The only feasible solution is to refund the buyer and send them $.75 for a stamp through PP or the like. This of course requires an honest buyer to send it back, but I find most are and the only other option is letting them keep it anyways.

I don't think OP's seller is trying to scam, rather they don't realize that in this situation they need to be the one to accept the risk by refunding first.

ETA: in other words @astraff, if the seller sends you the refund through ebay and then sends you payment for postage off site before you mail it back, that is fine.

Just a little side note here:  Formerly, when I saw a message like this, I gave the most detailed directions about how to open a case for NAD or INR.  Still do that sometimes, starting with "ALL buyers and sellers need to read the MBG, preferably BEFORE they start buying or selling here." But kinda stopped that when I got a private message that I was going into too much detail .
