First time return, need help

Just had a quick question, I recently bought cards from a seller and it was in a bit worse condition than I expected (had scratches and dents that weren't visible in the picture) and I sent the seller a refund request to which they accepted but then proceeded to send me a dm. I've never done a refund before so I just wanted some advice if this was safe to do or if this is a scam? Should I be worried if the person can charge back through Cash App? Screenshot 2025-05-04 at 9.48.04 PM.png

No -- do NOT do as the seller suggests.

Here is the eBay approved method for opening a "not as described" case against a seller.

Go to your "Seller Hub" page.

Click on "My eBay" at the upper right edge of the screen, then click on "Purchase History."

Find the item which you wish to return.

On the right hand side of the screen is a column of blue ovals -- click on "More actions," then click on "Return this item."

You will be sent to the "Return  request" page, which asks "Why are you returning this item?" -- scroll down to
"Item doesn't match description", and click on that.

You will be asked to "Confirm" -- click on that button.

You will be sent to another screen that asks "Anything else to share?" -- enter your comments about the undisclosed markings on the card.  You will need to download at least one photo of the undisclosed markings on the card -- do your best for a close-up photo.

Then click on "Continue."

Follow the rest of the instructions provided by eBay.

Your seller will need to download a pre-paid return label to you within 4 days -- if the seller fails to send you this return label after 4 days have elapsed, eBay will send you the return label at the seller's expense.

Ship the card back securely -- you will be refunded by the seller after the seller has received the shipment.  If the seller does NOT refund you, you can escalate the case through eBay, and the seller will be forced to send you a refund.

One more IMPORTANT thing -- don't let the seller stall you, or try to talk you into doing the return in a different manner!  Just follow the official eBay method, and you will receive your refund.

Good luck.

Thanks so much! I just did the steps as you mentioned. I gave close up photos, highlighting the spots and the seller did accept it so, I guess I'm just waiting on the shipping return label to arrive to me within a few days? Thanks again for the quick reply @1786davycrockett

Glad you received good advice here.  How about taking the time to read the Money Back Guarantee for buyers so that you'll know exactly what steps to take if/when a transaction goes wrong?

Buyer asked for advice - he received simpler, better advice right on these boards.  Not sure why some people always need that lecture to read the help pages, which aren’t very helpful.

Yes -- you will receive an email notification from eBay when it is time to download and print your pre-paid shipping return label.

Your seller may stall on permitting this return for up to 4 days; but the end result is the same -- one way or another, you will receive a notification from eBay to print and ship.

One of my recent sellers stalled the full 4 days (plus a few hours on day 5); but eBay kicked in on day 5 -- so keep an eye on your eBay email account.

Presuming you're referring to my reply, why is it wrong to suggest that a buyer who's had a problem should perhaps read the MBG?

Maybe you've not noticed, but some of the people who have issues here are encountering problems because they did not read or use the MBG.

Sorry you didn't like my suggestion.

I have never once read the MBG.  I’m good.  And people come here to help guide them through what might be confusing (for some) terms and instructions.   I suppose that we could respond to every post with a link to a policy.  I’m sorry that you didn’t like my reply.

If you don't receive a shipping label, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in for a refund.

Have a great day.

I think you're ALL correct..

All of you..   DavyCrockett & Ken.  Well done..

Well Done Everyone.. Nice Job!Nice Job!

Powell & Mary,  technically you are both correct,  Buyers and definitely sellers should read the MBG but we all know MANY people don't and some that do, still have no clue and are lost.

So yes we should give simple, easy to follow advice and when they have time they should at least skim the MBG.

I have to be honest tho, like Powell, I've never read it. I do understand it and I know the rules both ways (most of them LOL).

"Why would buyers need to go to seller hub to file snad return  ? why they can to item purcahse  buyer buying page and go to item they bought to open the   snad    return .   never though about the seller hub to file return ."

It was clear to me that the OP was unsure regarding how to open a NAD case (the OP has a feedback of only 25).

So I merely provided a step-by-step, easy to follow procedure for the OP to follow.

Admittedly, more experienced buyers would not feel it necessary to first go to Seller Hub -- but the OP admits that this is their "first time return."

Hope that answers your question.
