Not sure about PacBell in particular, but older and more vintage-ier phones can get some nice prices here. The old Western Electric models are practically bulletproof, still compatible with landline service the last time I checked (they pulse-dial rather than touch-tone), and sound great. The only issue you might have is with a landline that doesn't deliver enough ringing voltage to make a clear mechanical ring when a call comes in, but we can't have everything...

So while the smartphone resale prices will sink permanently downward, the old hardware can slowly rise in value. (I like to think of myself the same way. )
