Final Value Fee

Why doe final value fee include shipping amount, and then a separate value fee is charged just on shipping.

Final Value Fee

The final value fee is based on the entire amount the item sells for. eBay doesn’t know the shipping part until the buyer checks out and chooses the shipping type. Using the total means that sellers who get the same amount on a sale pay the same fees regardless of whether they choose “free” shipping, actual shipping or shipping and handling.

if eBay went back to fees only on the item price they would have to raise the percentage to compensate. They are not going to walk away from fees.

Realistically eBay should charge the whole Fvf when the buyer checks out but I’m sure that doing it the way they do brings in more money because sellers may not file to get their Fvf back on non payers.

Final Value Fee

They started charging FVF on shipping a while back because dishonest sellers would abuse the fee system. It used to be common to see people list items for $1 with $50 shipping to avoid fees.

Between this and how disputes work I personally no longer offer expedited shipping services which makes a worse experience for the customer sadly. I am not willing to pad a $150 overnight label another $20 just to cover my fees then lose that money on a fraudulent return.

Final Value Fee

People would stop buying on eBay if they had to pay additional fees to buy.

I didn't say buyers should have more fees. I didn't even say sellers should have more fees. I said that Ebay could change when the fees were charged to make them less controversial.

So I guess I don't understand what you're trying to say?

Ebay can say what ever they want and used that as an excuse. All they had to do was punish the sellers that were guilty but it was easier to punish all sellers so they could raise all their income with FVF's on shipping. Sellers in countries with high shipping costs get the absolute shaft.

Final Value Fee

Sellers who sell large heavy things paid more. In general though most sellers paid about the same after the change. eBay dropped the percentage for some sales and started giving free listings and pictures.

i was on the boards and a lot of sellers ran the numbers and did not start paying more. Boar dies in general we’re not punished by the change. Many people forget about the positive changes made to offset the change in calculation.
