Feeling ripped off by hidden fees

I made my first sale this April for $80, and the buyer paid for $37 shipping fee (from US to UK). I followed instruction that I dropped of the item to usps. And in total it took about 25 days to be delivered.
As a result, $108 was credited into my paypal account.

Today, June 14, I got an email saying that I owed ebay $79 seller fee. I was shocked so I talked to an agent. She said $10 was regular seller fee and the other $69

was “supplemental service fee” due to the weight of my items.

I feel so bad now because I was not informed about such fee when I proceeded the sale, and now they are threatening me if I don’t pay this they will send my debt to collectors.

I'm a newbie too. Thank you for sharing this story. I'll have to do more research before I start.

@sach7490 I'm sorry that you are being charged more unexpected fees but these are not hidden fees. There are no hidden fees, if there were then everyone who sells on this platform would also be hit with these hidden fees. Admittedly you are a new seller and it seems you made an error on the weight of your item. I don't have access to any details as it is your account and can only base my reply on what you provided here. Shipping is based on weight and dimensions of the shipping container, plus location to be sent to. So the presumption is you had the incorrect weight on your shipping label. USPS will typically still send the item but come back to the sender afterwards to get additional postage due to them. Your beef seems to be with USPS not eBay itself, but again only going on what you've written here.

Yes, really be aware of that!

Yes that might be the situation, I measured dimensions and but probably I

did not put the accurate weight.

I got those items brand new from other seller. The package they sent me was written “3 lbs” so I just said 3 lbs when I

sold the items in ebay.

Who told you the shipping cost was $37.00?

Did you use GSP?

I think this happens when you grossly underestimate the weight of the item being shipped through GSP.

What was the item?

What was the package weight?

What was your "regular" shipping charge, if the buyer wasn't international?

When I accepted the buyer’s offer and selecting shipping method.

I used the eBayInternational Standard Delivery. And yes, probably I slightly underestimated the weight.

Those are books that weighed 3 lbs. I got them brand new from another website and the package I got said 3 lbs. Since I did not add anything to it I just assumed the weight will be the same.

What is the difference between the shipping fee of GSP and the normal shipping fee? I think 37$ for 3lb with international shipping is reasonable, but 69$ more, it's so bad.

He's asking what the cost was if it was going to someone in the US. Probably Priority or Media Mail in this case. The fees for international sales or quicker shipping methods will be based on the cheapest shipping method offered. So if you offer First Class and Two Day and the buyer selects Two Day, the fees will be based on whatever it cost for First Class. Same goes for international stuff.

Since OP would have had something set up for local shipping. I'm a little confused why they are wanting an extra $10 for the selling fee since it should have already been covered in the original purchase. Calculated shipping, maybe?

Hi - You obviously will do as you will. For me, I do not try to sell out of the USA. I figure if it can't sell here then maybe it is something that shouldn't be sold. Also, you may end up getting a negative because the postal service is too slow. Also, with USPS, you have no way to track a package once it leaved our borders. Not to mention the excessive expense.  L

I agree with you 100%. They're NO hidden fees on EBay.  On Ebay selling platform everything is transparent, and requires some reading, and effort to find it.
