So, we as sellers can receive negative feedback, but we can't leave negative feedback to buyers? I think it's time to start normalising leaving negative feedback to buyers. I have been 'ghosted' so many times, and received payments days after the listing has ended. It's getting ridiculous...

I appreciate the replies.
I see a lot of replies to my original post about retaliatory feedback. Nothing about retaliatory from my end.
Unfortunately, there is no immediate payment to my knowledge for auctions.

eBay: “cry me a river. I don’t care.”

Nope. That’s one reason why many sellers stopped doing auctions.

eBay is really the only site I've sold on (and I've sold on a lot) that lets buyers string sellers along for their payment.

Think about it for a moment, because this is cyberspace, there will be many disruptive elements
In the past, I was also very annoyed when I received negative feedback, but how can ebay be unable to accurately determine if they have the intention or not.
Now I ignore the other account it and still continue to sell and advise enthusiastically, some bad feedback no longer means much to me. But if you are positive, the number of customers who respond well and come back to buy for you increases the amount of sales, then that is important!!!
Consumers are so smart now they will compare both your good and bad feedback to judge!!

Hi
I'm a deadbeat, I like to buy but I don't like to pay.......
Go ahead, give me a neg if it makes you feel good.....
It's fun entertainment for the 30 seconds it takes for me to create a new buying account and make that neg go away forever.

Sad, but true and all to freaking easy to do..........

Yea, despite it being a sucky situation I still found being stood up by Craigslist buyers back in the day worse than eBay non payers.
My wife is part of a FB free item giveaway group. I don’t know exactly what the name is but basically it’s just people posting stuff they are giving away for free. It’s a good way to clear out clutter, but she says she still gets stood up a lot from people who claim the item and never come to get it.

You are everything that is wrong with this world.

@eye-of-the-tiger
But, sellers can warn other sellers by putting a negative comment in positive feedback!
Ignoring the ban on false positives.
No seller is ever going to read your feedback, because over 85% of listings are Fixed Price.
And most Auctions have a Buy It Now price.
No seller using either of those options will see their buyer until he buys. No chance to read buyer feedback.
And the few listings that are true auctions get most bidding in the last few minutes.
Again, no chance to read buyer feedback.
So who is reading your angry slams at your customers?
Buyers who until they looked at your Feedback Left for Others were thinking of buying from you.
The ones hitting the backbutton.

I agree with @femmefan1946 , it's a lose-lose proposition ultimately reflecting badly on the seller
on the plus side, it does provide for good entertainment
one of my funniest moment on eBay was reading the "Feedback Left for Others" section of a German vintage Swatch watch seller, he literally called every other buyer "stupid" (maybe it doesn't translate well from German)

eBay REMOVED the Neutral and Negative feedback from buyers' feedback in 2008. It's not going to be put them back either. eBay sees neg/neu feedback as discouraging buyers.
And do NOT put a negative comment on a buyer's Positive feedback either. eBay allows buyers to report that and will take off the bad comment, leave the positive feedback icon and ding the seller for violating the buyer feedback policy.

Sorry I forgot the sarcasm disclaimer!
In case you missed it the point of my post was to demonstrate how useless leaving negs for buyers is. Anyone who was selling here on eBay 20 years ago knows that non-payment issues were just as bad if not worse back in the days of negs for buyers. I say worse because it could take weeks to finally figure out you were not getting paid.
