Feedback on shipping cost

It would seem to me that if the shipping price is stated then a buyer should have no complaint with the cost.  Ebay should not allow negative or neutral feedback on shipping costs if they are stated in the ad.  BUYERS can read and should have no ability to mark you down for the cost shipping period.  It's just ludicrous.... eBay can't even hold a buyer responsible for knowing a stated cost because why?  If it says 5.96 then the buyer should expect to pay 5.96 and eBay should not allow anyone to be hammered for charging what the shipping price is set at.  Don't give me a neutral don't count... it may not count to you, but it counts to me.  The computer should handle this... it doesn't need any human help.   There should be NO neutral or negatives allowed for shipping costs.  End of Rant.

What if the seller invoices for more than the stated shipping cost, or fails to honor a promise to combine shipping?

Ebay sends the final sales invoice.  If someone alters an invoice that is another situation all together.  A point that would have a legal remedy.   If someone fails to honor an agreement, then it is eBay's purview to step in and enforce the agreement... this is not an issue that has anything to do with a negative or neutral feedback.  These are cases that can't be solved by feedback anyway.   Ebay would have to solve them in the end.

Ebay sends the final sales invoice.

Not when the buyer puts multiple items in the cart and asks the seller for a total.

If someone fails to honor an agreement, then it is eBay's purview to step in and enforce the agreement

If a buyer emails a seller prior to purchase and asks what combined shipping will be, and the seller does not not honor his response, eBay does not "step in to enforce the agreement". Give me a break.

These are cases that can't be solved by feedback anyway.

Agreed - feedback cannot force a seller to honor an agreement. But feedback is an absolutely valid and appropriate way to warn other buyers that the seller cannot be trusted.

Sometimes if I want an item so bad, I'll knowingly pay inflated shipping cost just to get the item. Does it mean that I was happy to pay inflated shipping? No. Although I would never give someone a neg. or neutral because of that, I will ding their DSR for it in the shipping column. Inflated is inflated. It's like going at a **bleep** place to eat because you're so hungry and there's no other place around. The food is terrible, but it served it's purpose. Will you give them a 4-star rating because you're no longer starving? No.

Selling an item for 99 cents then making your profit on shipping cost deserves at least a neutral. If you start asking the correct amount on the listing instead of inflating ship cost you will reduce the amount of unhappy buyers.

Buyer can certainly rate and comment on the cost of shipping and the service received, such as

  • whether the seller offers competitive shipping services and cost
  • whether the seller ships the order as stated in the listing (shipping service used, handling time)
  • whether the item is safely packaged

If you want to automatically receive 5 stars on shipping you can offer free shipping.

There is a rating for Item Shipping Speed and if you shipped item within your stated shipping time this is not allowed to be rated by the buyer because eBay will automatically rate it as 5 Stars.

If shipping charges are stated prior to placing an order or a bid then it should not be allowed to be rated after the purchase.  It should be treated the same as Shipping Speed is treated, eBay automatically rates it.

If a item is sent by a lesser service then charged for, then you should be rated for that and there is a eBay procedure to report someone who does this.

eBay has what they consider maximum shipping cost and as long as you are within their guidelines there should not be an option to rate your shipping cost.

Use to a long time ago, you could list a item without stating a shipping fee and determine the shipping fee after the sale.  Are you still allowed to do this?  In this situation then yes, I could understand being unsatisfied with the shipping fees because you may not know until after the sale.

I HAVE NEVER done that!  I ship for what is shown and I price by what I need to get.  Totally above board and as accurate as I can make it... and I still got a neutral.  That is not right.

In my case... there was NOT mulitple items...what I'm hearing is it's too difficult for a computer to recognize there are multiple items ?  I'm only concerned with single items.. I have never abused shipping costs and yet I get a neutral for it.  Not right because this buyer DID warn other buyers of WHAT ?   The shipping cost were exactly what was stated which was eBay's calculation not mine.

Again.... a computer can't figure that out I guess.    I ONLY SOLD A SINGLE ITEM... everyone is wanting to make this about something it is not.  But I can't stop the SPIN.. so I'm wrong the buyer was right to ding me for what was the exact shipping charge eBay indicated prior to her purchase... I have no idea why I EVER come here to suggest something could be better... You just get beat up and not a **bleep** thing gets solved.

IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF What ?    I weigh an item and indicate the weight and eBAY assigns a cost for that shipping fee for the seller to see... I'm not talking about multiple sales, I'm not talking about there being no shipping price...I'm not talking about a shipping cost that is for anything but the actual weight which ebay calculated NOT ME.  and I'm saying the seller should not be able to give me a NEUTRAL for the WHOLE sale because of something that is obviously correct in every way.  NO IFS,  just the facts.

And I'm saying if the cost was decided by eBay how can I be given a bad rating... ding the stars.. heck I don't care, but give me a black eye for the whole sale isn't right.

I got no problem with what you do and I might do the same.... the stars are where this belongs and not giving someone a negative or neutral feedback because you didn't like the USPS cost for shipping.

I guess it's beyond a computer's ability to see if there was an over charge on shipping after the fact... eBay charges 10% for shipping, so they can obviously see it.  I AM ONLY TALKING ABOUT SINGLE ITEM SALES THAT ARE SHIPPED AT THE EBAY STATED RATE.  OBVIOUSLY A FEATHER SHOULDN'T SHIP FOR 10 LBS, BUT IT IS PRETTY OBVIOUS IF THE RATE IS DISTORTED.    I'M SAYING LET THEM DING THE STARS FOR SHIPPING, BUT NOT A NEUTRAL OR NEGATIVE FOR THE ENTIRE SALE.  Really you sell hundreds of items with no problem and then you get a "neutral" tag for a 99 Cent item that ships for the least amount you can ship any item for and you still get smacked... FOUL .  I'm done with this conversation because it ends like always with ME being the bad guy... **bleep** me if I ever come to the community board and post anything again.  jeesh
