Why do I have 2 different feedback numbers?
On my feedback page it is 981 but in my listings where the recent feedback is listed it shows 998.

Well, we both have FOUR different feedback scores.
On my Feedback Profile page my official (public) score is 53,120. But below that it says I have a total of 61,787 feedback. But on another page it shows 61,340. And on still another it shows 447.
Here’s the deal:
The 61,787 is the total feedback I have received as both a buyer and a seller. 61,340 is what I have received as a seller. 447 is the feedback I have received as a buyer. (61,340 + 447 = 61,787)
Now the 53,120 is a little more complicated. eBay’s policy is that if you receive multiple feed backs from the same source within the same eBay week only one of them is counted towards your “public” score. (i.e. a buyer who buys several things in a short time and leaves independent feedback on each.) On the other hand, if a buyer buys 2 items more than a week apart then both feed backs are counted.
In your case you have actually received a total of 1173 feed backs. 998 as a seller and 175 as a buyer and a 981 "public" score based on the explanation just above.
Hope this helps.

To piggyback on Richard's response:
The 998 is your total feedback received as a seller counting repeats (same as his 61,340 number).
The 981 is the number that's counted on your feedback page for both buying and selling without counting repeats (same as his 53,120 number).

Just more complicated junk in ebay's system that makes no sense.
