Everyone after dealing with a European counterpart of Ebay for awhile, it seems such a great idea for the seller. It really does promote the auction enviroment and will get rid of all the snipers. I have placed my highest bid before at the end and then missed it by 5 cents, that is crazy. If I had 3 minutes to think about it I could have bid again and again until I decided to give up or they do. That seller may have made another $100 or so. All the sniping sites now are competeing with each other and on a hot item, the buyer waiting till the last 10 seconds to place a bid will sometimes get shut out, because of to much traffic. I can't believe Ebay hasn't thought of doing this to aid the seller in getting the most they can, evetrybody wins on this the seller, Ebay, and the person that really wants this item has a chance to get it. I had a buyer tell me if he really wants something he just places a ridiculous bid and if it goes to high he claims he just made a mistake and does not honor his bid. This would elimitatre all these problems. What does everyone else think.

Is this an option?
its a great idea and makes sense.
there is nothing worse then someone automating bis at the last millisecond
if there is bidding activity each bid should extend the time by 30 seconds during the last 2 mins
would be great for sales and building excitement, which is part of the auction appeal

Short answer - No
Long answer - Heck no
Find a good sniper site and go at it. I win about 50 percent of my auctions. As a seller I dont want my auctions extended. I do fine just as it is.

@baantiques wrote:I agree. The timed auction with an absolute end is antiquated and limiting. Think about it - live auctions don't have arbitrary time limits, they take all bids until no one wants to go any higher. Most live auction sites like Proxibid are using the model where the bid is extended. To NOT do it that way is to short change both buyers and sellers.
The way to fix the non paying bidder problem is just the way Proxibid does it - you have a CC on file and they charge you after the auction is over.
As an auctioneer I can tell you that the bidding period on an item on the block at a live outcry auction is far less than the amount of time you have on a timed auction like eBay. Of course, if you happen to be late when your item is up it is your tough luck.
I'm not sure that you would find too many people willing to trust eBay with their credit cards and authorization to automatically bill it at the end of an auction. Let's face it, eBay's glitch record isn't exactly stellar.

I think eBay’s glitch record is pretty stellar. They happen pretty regularly and seem to affect a lot of people. You can’t have better glitches than that. In fact I’d say they are known for the quality of their glitches if the boards are anything to go by.

@eagle7918 Local online Estate Auctions use a "soft close" ... a last second bid adds time to the Auction ... as long as people keep bidding the auction keeps going.

Before anyone posts anything more in this thread, let me suggest reading it through from the beginning, because otherwise we're just going to end up repeating the whole discussion. Most all of these points were already covered in detail; please let's not hash it all over again...
