Expensive item stolen in transit

i recently sold an item on ebay which was a ASM Hydrasynth Desktop, i sent the item off  at an evri drop off point, the synth was in its original box and tightly packaged wrapped in black wrap and tape. somehow within transit, the package has been cut open and stolen?? The package was then delivered to the customers neighbour signed for even though you can see it was tampered/stolen. I really don’t know what to do and looking for advice, thanks.

I would take this up with Evri. The security of your item as it passes through their system is their responsibility.

It's also probably worth searching on the ebay UK forum (this is the .com forum) for anyone that has had a similar problem to see if there was a solution to this.

I am pretty sure you will have to refund if the buyer files a not as described case claiming empty package.

@owbra-8983,

Both of the previous replies are good ones but the first one is correct about posting your issue on the ebay U.K. site's community. Evri is not a shipping service used in the U.S. Use the link below to your home site's community

You'll get the same answer there. The seller is responsible for getting the item to the buyer, intact, and in the condition described.

I don't  know of any shipping service that is responsible if the buyer claims their package was received empty.  A carrier will claim poor packaging if the package came open and the contents went missing.

A carrier, before delivering an obviously empty package will normally affix a sticker on the empty package that lets you know the package was delivered missing contents. This is proof it was received empty. Without that sticker it could be the package was delivered intact and someone came along and stole the item and left the empty box behind.  The seller or eBay would not be responsible for that. Clever thieves don't want to be caught with a package addressed to someone else.

However, if the buyer claims not as described the seller will be forced to refund. Buyer protection is the same in the UK or the U.S.
