Endless Password Loop

I am logged in and am trying to relist an item. When I click on relist it bumps me out of my account and asks for password. I put in my password and takes me back to my account and back to square one (no relist). Try again same thing. Called CS and they told me site glitch try again tomorrow. Anyone else facing this issue? This is Deja Vue with another thing that happened to me where I was told it was a site glitch but it was not and actually a problem with my account.

Endless Password Loop

Thanks, I tried another browser and no dice. Turns out I was entering wrong password. Bizarre that when I entered the wrong password the site said I was logged in so it appears it just bumped me back to a prevous state where I was logged in under the correct password but it would not allow me to do some things (like relist items) unless I re logged in using the correct password.

I normally get good CS when I call but this is the second time they blew me off with the same exact excuse of they are getting a high volume of calls on the issue and that I should try back in 24 hrs.

Such repeated sign-in requests are often an indication of a problem with the way your browser is handling cookies, or a corrupt eBay cookie.

Try using a different browser as a test; or possibly try a private or incognito browser window. If you are able to sign in and navigate without repeated sign-in requests, try clearing your eBay cookies in the original browser.

Well, you did figure out what the problem was and you returned to post about it. I think that counts as providing the solution.

Your answer might very well help out someone in a similar situation that finds your thread.

Endless Password Loop

Thanks, I actually clicked on my second post to accept it as the solution before it accepted it as a solution. I agree it may help someone which is why I came back to post my full experience and resolution. I also got a feedback survey from ebay on my CS experience where I outlined what happened and my disappointment in getting blown off by CS with the wrong advice.

When it asked me to put in my password, which I was filling in incorrectly, and it was just kicking me back to my already logged in account without letting me relist my item there was no error message feedback telling me I filled in an incorrect password. Had it given me that simple bit of feedback it could have been so much simpler to figure out.

I think the issue has to do with certain actions (such as listing an item) requiring an additional sign in if you have not signed in recently, even though you are currently signed in to the account. This is to prevent someone else who has brief access to your account (say, if you walk away from your computer for a minute or two) from doing certain things to alter your account or listings.

Most password entry forms will simply fail if you enter the wrong password rather than giving you a message about what has gone wrong as a security precaution to prevent others from obtaining any info about your password or username.

The fact that you are dumped back into your account while still apparently signed in does seem to be an oversight, though. Normally you should be kicked out entirely at that point, I think. But lately users have been complaining that when they sign out of eBay they can still go to their My eBay pages without having to sign in again, so there may be an issue with how the sign out process works, at least where users have the "keep me signed in" box checked.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I agree it seems to be an oversight that it dumps me right back into my signed in account and filling in the wrong password should dump me out of the account which is the feedback I would hope for letting me know I was using the wrong password. To add a bit more confusion it had me go through two levels of  Captcha making me think my password entry was successful but it was, in fact, not.
