Buyer claims I sent empty box......of course I was selling expensive leather jacket.....usps just notified me return box is not same weight as sent box.....because he is sending back empty box.....I reported buyer but a new surprise showed up....I did a spokeo check on his name and guess what... he does not live in Washington State where I sent the box......there are 2 men living at the address with different names.....and it says my buyer lives in San Diego, CA.......so I am guessing they are using someone else's ebay profile to top it all off.
How do we protect ourselves from these scammers!!!!!!????? I am so stressed out .....I got scammed years ago and never got my sterling silver back found out the guy was a well known thief and the site promptly refunded him. I was put through hell......

On eBay, you don't. The "empty" box scam was a favorite of international buyers that used Freight Forwarders there for a while until more SELLERS figured out that said buyers were NOT eligible for Money Back Guarantee claims AND the sellers knew where to go in eBay for redress.
Otherwise, I am sure it is a pretty effective scam technique. When you get the parcel back and it is NOT what you sent, first thing to do is REPORT the buyer. If this is not their first rodeo, that may suffice, but there are a few more actions you can take. Do come back for advice, but know eBay has no seller protection for "not as described" claims of which the 'empty box' is one of them. Maybe they will send the parcel to an address in your Zip Code instead of to you. There is hope for the phony return scam as well.
Good luck, and let us know what you get back.

Just curious.
How/why would the usps notify you of this?

Slightly off topic, but you can’t trust those online searches to be accurate. MOST of them say that I’m deceased. One of them claims I live with my 2nd husband’s first wife (I’ve never met her).
Looking up your buyers information that way doesn’t guarantee you’re getting even slightly accurate information. (Unless someone forgot to tell me I’m deceased).

I agree with that....never ends
🤕😫😠

I don't know as this is the first time they have done this but am glad they did cuz it proves there was something in the box when I shipped it....😀😇🤠

Ok that is possible but I paid for that search so if that's true then I got scammed again....😀😝😱

I don't know....a first for me but glad they did....cuz I bet they are experiencing the same things if not more that we are....🤠🤔👻

wow interesting.....never knew that...😎

I paid for the ones that ultimately showed me deceased. I called them and demanded a refund as it was obviously inaccurate.

What I'm wondering is, if Buyer Claims you sent them an empty box, did you actually send a Return Label for them to send back that empty box?
Why? 🤔
And, you don't "Protect Yourself From These Scammers." That's part of Selling on ebay. Something ebay allows. Something you must accept. Deal with.

If the buyer says the box was empty when received, of course they would ship back the empty box.

The usps keeps track of your orders, packages sent and packages sent back?
How do they know these 2 packages are even related?
How do they contact you?
