so I looked at an item that was discussed on this board.  It is an item I have never searched before or even heard of.  All I did was view it on my desktop PC......

....and now it is an ad that appears on my yahoo mail app on my phone.

That is some really fast and effective marketing that eBay has working for all of it's sellers.

Those so called buyers must be ignoring all of the marketing tied to my items!  The past three days have been SO SLOW!  Where's my traffic?

Well it might not actually be eBay. I once did a Google search for a particular item. Within an hour I had ads popping up on my home email page for that product from a variety of sellers - and not eBay sellers but commercial sites.

You no longer have any privacy.

When I was a kid 1984 was a dire prophecy. Now it is an instruction manual.

It is not just Ebay and has nothing to do with Ebay marketing. In fact Ebay does not even sell anything on line.  I am surprised you didn't know that. ANYTHING you search regardless of what, where, or who, will be cached' and added on to your device. Clearing your cache and cookies may help.

I know that about all that.....but what impressed me was the ad copy appeared on a completely different device than what I used to view the post on this board.

I have seen ads for items I have talked about. No internet search, just a casual conversation with a co-worker while we stood at the watercooler.

THEY are listening.

My first experience with the Internet was in 1998. We'd moved into a new house and got an Internet connection for the first time. I didn't have a clue what to do to use it, but I thought to myself "I bet the Lands End clothing catalog is on the computer". Searched and got all sorts of real estate companies and geographic areas called "Land's End", but no clothing catalog. I was still poking around at the computer and not 20 minutes later up pops ads for Lands End clothing. I was mightily impressed that they found me!

Any electronic device is suspect these days. You want privacy? Get off the grid......completely. Even then...........

Had a friend who was riding in the car with her husband and they were discussing buying a new mattress.  Within a few hours mattress ads began to pop up on her smart-phone.  Completely spooked her.  She told  me to let me know she finally believed me and finally got it when it when I told her I won't own one, won't use wi-fi, Microsoft or Apple products, won't sign up to any social media, etc.

Even with all that, I know my privacy and personal security are probably breached on a daily basis, but I still see no no reason to make it easy for them.  😦
