Echeck Payment?

I'm a little confused. A customer purchased an item and when I saw it pending, I checked and it is actually an eCheck. I thought those weren't  allowed anymore. Just a little confused.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks so much.

I don't think an echeck can be used if the item is IPR. I also remember that it is no longer allowed for sellers to block echecks.

I don't remember ever seeing anything that said echecks are no longer allowed.

Yes, echecks are allowed, they just won't work for an IPR listing. You cannot block them on Ebay. They generally take 3-4 days to clear, and you will get the okay to ship notice when it clears.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

I wonder if the OP is referring to this type of echeck which is not allowed.

But an echeck through paypal is, at least I have never seen anything to the contrary.

I used to get a LOT of those, but now that you mention them, I haven't seen one in a long, long time (it's been at least 2 years or more).

Very interesting, glad to know they are still allowed I guess.

seller checked IPR stops e-checks but apparently the eBay forced IPR doesn't.

Are you sure? An e-Check is practically the opposite of an Immediate Payment. It can be used on a BuyItNow that does not require Immediate Payment, but I didn't think there was anything special about a BIN with an IPR that was automatically assigned as opposed to being chosen by the seller.

I agree swenson - I used to get them occasionally but haven't received one in quite some time.

An echeck happens when a buyer not only pays through their bank account, but also doesn't have a credit card on file as a backup in case the check "bounces." If they have a cc on file, then the echeck is treated as an instant payment.  So as more members have cc's on file, the incidence of echecks would drop.

Thank you all for your feedback. Because I also haven't had an eCheck in at least a year, I was a bit surprised to get one. I guess they just aren't used that much anymore.

Appreciate all your comments.

That buyer could have international and what he was requesting would have been a top up payment. Where he initiated an e-check through PayPal and then goes to his bank to initiate a wire transfer to PayPal to cover the check. Seems to be something scammers have figured out and they hope the seller will ship despite the pending/do not ship status. Obviously the scammer never goes to the bank to complete the payment.

The first lesson I ever learned on eBay was not to ship before the payment was cleared...lol. grinning

Keep in mind that there is a scam going around with Non US Verified PP accounts where the buyer gets the seller to ship, then cancels the E Check.
