Ebay pushing sellers to spend proceeds on Ebay

Ebay is now pushing sellers to spend their Ebay proceeds at Ebay...this after making tons of money from sellers with their so called promotions. I've bern a seller on Ebay for 18 years. Until the past couple of years I never had to pay extra to "promote" my listings.  Some sellers are paying upwards of 25% in final value fees, which I refuse to do. And now they want us to take our earnings and spend them on Ebay. A bit greedy of them I think.

Ebay pushing sellers to spend proceeds on Ebay

Here is my 2 cents. The fact is Sellers are eBay's customer not the buyers. No sellers means no buyers. So like any business the goal of ebay is to extract as much cash as possible from sellers, their customer.  As noted by others this is something some folks have asked for.  This gives the ones that asked the ability to spend easily on ebay, hence more revenue for ebay without having to endure any costs from processing credit cards. So those that want to spend can, and ebay makes more money. Not a bad  business decision on behalf of ebay. I myself will not use it as doing so would rob me of the cash back points I would get on my credit card for purchases made on ebay.   Two final points to make,  I am not an ebay cheerleader, and I do think your post  does have some merit.

Have a safe and happy holiday !

It is a fine line that Ebay has to walk.  Without sellers there will be no buyers on Ebay to be sure.  But without buyers there would be no sellers on Ebay either.  So both sides of the transaction are VERY important.

But why that pesky message won't go away is a good one.  I've been trying to get rid of it for days and it messes up how I have my Seller Hub set up at a glance.

Can we get the MP team to allow us to close this darn message and make it go away.  Or are they going to require we sign up for it before it will go away????

Hey @mam98031! I can share this suggestion over to the correct team to have them take a look at it.

I was not bothered by e-Bay mentioning spending the proceeds of my sales on the platform; a quick X out and the ad disappeared. After seven days or so, it completely vanished.

Mine is now gone too, but not until after I asked Ebay for a little help getting rid of it via Devon in the above post.  I'm sure glad it is gone now.
