Ebay is the worst and I'm done.

Ebay is the worst. Been a seller since 1999 and I'm 100% done. I had stopped selling for several years. I hoped things had changed for the better but after selling a few things recently I realized its worse. I had decided to give Ebay another chance hoping they had fixed some of their issues. I didn't mind the 13.1% selling fees as that was about what it was before when Ebay took 10% and Paypal took 3%. Not only do you get charged 13.1% on the selling price but you also pay 13.1% on the tax and the shipping costs. Just sold a $50 item but got paid out $35. Ebay took 30% of the sale. Extremely misleading when they say 13.1% selling fees.  Not worth it Ebay. Not to mention their complete lack of intelligence/caring when it comes to scam buyers. You can show them emails that pretty much shows that the buyer is scamming you and they don't care. If you are thinking about becoming a seller on ebay, just know you are going to get screwed. They don't care that the only reason they make money is because of sellers. I hope everyone figures this out and stops selling on ebay.

"...Just sold a $50 item but got paid out $35. Ebay took 30% of the sale..."

If ebay charged you 15.00 as a Final Value Fee, that is incorrect. Have you asked CS to look at that sale? If it is the 50 dollar item in your sold list., you should have been charged a FVF of less than 10.00 or so......

You're not done, you have 9 listings left to remove.

Please take a look at the payment details for the transactions & look at all the total fees. Does it truly equate to 30% of the sale? Or are you considering the tax &/or shipping as part of the sale?

Don't forget that you never receive the funds for the sales tax.

Take a look & let us know!

You'll be done when you get those listings down.  After that, happy trails wherever they lead you.

Show us screenshots of the transaction that shows the fee breakdown because I can guarantee that they didn’t take 30%. Lets see it.

Like you I have never had any issues with the fees they are well documented and all sellers should be aware of them in advance. I will agree that the scamming, returns, NAD..... processes seem to be continually increasing, especially the number of chargebacks although there is no way to substantiate that since eBay has never, and probably will never, release those statistics. I can't image the reaction if those were known. A lot of posters will claim that percentage is small and most sales take place without issue but they have no way to prove that. I will agree eBay has made some poor decisions lately including but not limited to: the new listing template, the eBay International Shipping program, the spendable funds initiative.......

As for your recent sale something appears to be wrong with the FVF's you were charged unless there is something about your listing that is an add on like promoted listings, subtitle or gallery plus or it shipped internationally your payout should have been around $44 although I don't know what your actual shipping cost was on the sale or what the actual sales tax was based on where the buyer was located but sub your own numbers into the following and see what you get.

"Cost of selling" for my sales show as from 25-30% when I check in my account, but I know that is what it will cost going in, so I do not see it as an issue.

Things have changed little. Creative math can be used to prove justify statements of %ages.

FVF has been charged on shipping for a long time, and in most instances the FVF on the sales tax paid by the buyer is not a big factor.  PP charged their fee on the sales tax, and although it was at a lower %age, things in MP are working out about the same for me in MP as they did before MP.

"Just sold a $50 item but got paid out $35. Ebay took 30% of the sale. Extremely misleading when they say 13.1% selling fees."

eBay "takes" fees based on the total price paid by the buyer.

Here is precisely how eBay's User Agreement describes their fees:

"
We charge one final value fee when your item sells, and you don't have to worry about third-party payment processing fees. This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order.

The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and any other applicable fees."

This information is neither secret nor hidden.

Too many people only hear or read what they want to hear or read.
eBay's final value fees are NOT charged only on the price of the Item.
eBay's final value fees are charged on the total amount of the sale.
eBay's final value fees are charged on the total amount your buyer pays.

eBay highest final value fee percentage is 15%.  And don't forget that every order is also subject to an eBay fee of 30 cents per order.  (An order might be one item or it might be three or four separate items from one seller, all bought by one buyer.)

"I hope everyone figures this out and stops selling on ebay."

I don't plan to stop selling on eBay.
(Well, these days I continue to try to sell on eBay.  Money still seems tight for most everybody.)
Because I have learned where to find the User Agreement and, since my two cataract surgeries, I can read clearly now.
Always did understand words, too.

You're leaving ebay based on the WRONG information you have?

dbfols166mt's numbers look right to me. Your total selling expenses were roughly 32% of your sale but only when the shipping cost is included. Your shipping cost gets paid to the shipper; not to eBay. eBay's fees were about 13% of the transaction, which is right on the money when you factor in the $0.30 flat listing fee. If you were charged higher fees, contact eBay.

Another way of looking at it is that you netted $44.23 on the sale of a $50 item. That seems fine to me.

The cost of shipping is only an expense when you don't make the buyer pay for it.

Are you sure that you didn't accidently click something like Bold print or put a reserve?  If you use a tablet or a phone to list?  WHen I use my Ipad to list, sometimes, my finger will hover over something and click that option like bold print.  SO if you use a phone or tablet, triple check your listing that you did not add anything extra.  I only promote 2 or 3 things and only 2%. (And none of the items have sold!)   If you offered free shipping and did not roll the shipping price into the starting price, that is your fault, not ebays.

Anyway, accounts can NOT be closed until 6 months AFTER the last sold item has arrived to the buyer. Ebay wants to make sure that the buyer is totally happy and doesn't open a chargeback.
