I sold and item through Ebay. The buyer disputes the purchase through his credit card company as not being accurately described. I contacted the buyer, no response. I provide proof of the item (which was accurately described) in the dispute opened by the credit card company with Ebay. Credit card company sides with their client (of course). Ebay deducts the purchase price plus $20 from my account. Item was never returned by the buyer. I have contacted Ebay dispute resolution on the phone multiple times, but they are no help. I am now having to dispute this with my bank/credit card company.
I think this leaves all Sellers on Ebay open to being scammed by disputing through credit card companies. What would happen to Ebay (and its sellters) if a scam like this was done on a large scale (i.e., disputing through credit card company and Ebay not protecting sellers)?
Not selling through Ebay again. No protection for sellers.

The new normal.
Welcome to eBay.

Ok but it appears you disputed the dispute...
You fought the chargeback, is that correct?
It is my theory (and I am willing to stand corrected) that ACCEPTING the dispute (and try to get the item back) would result in the bank "asking" the buyer to return the item and you would be liable for the refund only after tracking showed the item was delivered back to you, I am unsure how the shipping label part would transpire but it is even possible the bank would "ask" the buyer OR seller to do that (again I'm not sure how that would work out).
It's worth a shot, I almost want one of these chargeback cases for myself just to try it out lol

I absolutely dread, dread, dread the day when the inevitable chargeback happens to me. And hate that it happened to you.

This is new/old way of getting stuff for free. Don't let them get away with it. File a Police Report for Theft. File a report with USPS for theft as well. Good luck.

after all this time on eBay I have 2 chargebacks in dispute right now
I know that the financial institution will always side with buyer but I'm stubborn and will not let honest sales go just like that
I will keep the loss as shrink for tax time

I have contacted Ebay twice (by phone) and the agent has tried to reopen the dispute since the buyer did not return the product.
In the meantime, I am challenging Ebay's charge back with my own back (i.e., as a fraudulent charge).

Good luck. The problem is that large scale scamming of this sort would not only devastate sellers, but also Ebay. Imagine repeating this scam with thousand dollar items, over and over. Ebay bears responsibility for approving the charge back without first having the product shipped back. They don't disburse funds from a purchase until product is shipped; they should do the same when a sale is disputed.
