So I sold an item to a buyer via an auction, buyer paid right away no issue. About an hour later I get a message from another user new 0 feedback. The user asked me if the item was still available offering me more then what the auction sold for. I told them politely no it wasn't available anymore. They proceeded to ask me to sell it to them anyway in return for there higer payment and cancel the sale for the original buyer. I told them again politely no and reported them to ebay. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this?

Not sure what the item was but surely you didn't have the only one for sale or was the price you sold it at that far below the average market price? You handled the situation correctly. Generally if something smells fishy it probably is.

Its easy.....just ignore any further messages, block the buyer, & move on.

Hello. Points to you for remaining polite and professional with this person! In the totality of the situation, as we know it, I agree with most folks here - block and move on. The big problem here, to me, is that the individual had a brand new account. That sends up red flags because they are a complete unknown - not because being new is bad. Maybe the newbie just did not understand the transgression they were making by their request. Also, I don't know how rare or low priced your laptop was. If you were getting this request from someone who had an established account that was active with great history, then I would have been more inclined to think that an honest person was kicking themselves for missing an auction for something they felt rather desperate about. My point is that, weird things sometimes happen when selling on eBay and not all of them are nefarious. So, I think that there are no reasons for bad emotions against this person since we don't know anything about their motives (reading a few of the posts here got me concerned because they seem a little too vitriolic). Each of us sellers just needs to know where are the boundaries of our comfort zones and then we block those who try to invade it (whether deliberate or accidental) - it is a business choice not an emotional one.

"The big problem here, to me, is that the individual had a brand new account. " Why? We all had to start someplace. At one time we all had a new account. That doesn't signify that someone is a problematic member. It ONLY means they have a new account.
"I think that there are no reasons for bad emotions against this person since we don't know anything about their motives..." Emotions should not be playing in part in this at all. This was and is a business transaction. It is not a personal transaction. Sellers should always react / respond to problems in a professional and polite way. Emotions just don't belong here because nothing is personal.
