EBay ignores their own list of "prohibited items"

Ebay is clearly allowing the selling of merchandise that breaks their own rules of exploiting tragedies (human and animal), as well as promoting violence. Just search for "aligator" and how many "Aligator Alcatraz" items show up?? Disgusting.

What's next?

Holocaust exploitation

Nazi gear

Cruel and unusual punishment is still prohibited under the 8th amendment in the Constitution.

eBay at this point in time has NOT declared Alligator Alcatraz merch as "Offensive Material" (probably never will) so I'm not sure what your complaint is. One thing for sure, your claim that eBay "breaks their own rules" is totally FALSE in this case.

i’ve never been into selective outrage or false equivalence, so I’m really not interested in the boycott. Or whatever  you think that you’re doing. People can wear what they want to wear a dish. I don’t really have a problem with it. I might find it a bit tacky, but to each his own.

Makes for easier living to not judge others.  The other day, I came across a picture of Cher in a Nazi uniform. I don’t think she was a Nazi then, I don’t think she’s a Nazi now. I have no idea if she’s a wonderful person or a horrible person. But a Nazi, she is not. Live let live, don’t assume what is someone else else’s heart and mind. You might find that you have some things in common with those in the alligator Alcatraz T-shirts.

Yep, there were going to be a lot of threads on this. The first responders were like three days ago but, I guess, thanks.

What part of the policy does Alligator Alcatraz stuff specifically?  This is something that is very new to all of us to include Ebay.  I do not see where in the policy it calls this out.  Please show us specifically where they are breaching the policy.  That would be very helpful.

I just looked up the word "Offended" on Ebay. Lotta cool items for me to buy. I like the Yoda "Offended Are You, A **** i don't give" Sticker.

Just curious why you were specifically looking up the word "aligator" in the search engine.  You had to have known what you were going to find because that's the nature of the beast: for sellers to take a current event and capitalize on it as quickly as possible.   So, if you knew you were going to find things that were going to offend YOU, why did you purposefully look for them?

There are things that are sold on eBay that offend me, but I certainly don't make a point of searching them out; in fact, I avoid them.   But I know that there are people that want those items, and they can have at it.

Until eBay determines that something is offensive to enough people, they aren't going to prohibit them.  So, in the meantime, just avoid searching for those things that you don't agree with.

Unfortunately, Germany only disallowed the sale and display of whatever Nazi paraphernalia existed at the time after they lost the war. No doubt they would have sold shirts and Bierkrüge to finance the building of the KL had online commerce existed at the time.

Here’s to hoping Alligator A̶u̶s̶c̶h̶w̶i̶t̶z̶ Alcatraz merch will be banned one day in the future.

All this fuss over hats, tshirts and stickers.

Just seeing something for sale I don't agree with doesn't elicit strong emotions with me I guess. I would be unhappy and miserable if they did, unable to go shopping for clothes or music for just a couple of examples.

A targeted social media campaign could probably get eBay to prohibit it.  It's happened before.

Yeah, it rubs me the wrong way, too. Maybe try searching with the correct speling. I like properly-spelled words much better.
